About The Position

The Sr. Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based position within Amgen’s U.S. Medical team and reports to an Obesity MSL Field Director. The territory includes San Diego, Oceanside, Carlsbad, Escondido, El Cajon, Chula Vista, El Centro, and Hawaii. The MSL serves as a primary scientific and clinical resource to Opinion Leaders (OLs), Population Health Decision Makers (PHDMs), and other healthcare providers, executing Amgen Medical strategy to share accurate scientific information and help improve patient outcomes related to obesity and related conditions.

The role focuses on peer-to-peer scientific exchange, engagement with healthcare providers, clinical investigators, and institutional decision makers, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. The MSL provides balanced clinical and scientific information, supports research and congress activities, shares field insights with internal teams, and works compliantly across Amgen field roles. The position also requires ongoing development of clinical and scientific expertise and timely completion of administrative responsibilities and training.

Requirements

• Doctorate degree and 4 years of Medical Affairs experience; or a master’s degree and 8 years of Medical Affairs experience; or a bachelor’s degree and 10 years of Medical Affairs experience.
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate scientific data.

Nice To Haves

• Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D., or D.O.; other doctoral degrees will be considered.
• Five years of industry experience in Scientific or Medical Affairs at a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company.
• At least three years in a medical science liaison role.
• Expertise in cardiometabolic conditions and/or obesity and related conditions.
• Experience with the designated territory.

Responsibilities

• Conduct peer-to-peer activities with Opinion Leaders, community healthcare providers, and Population Health Decision Makers to discuss and advance the scientific platform in alignment with Amgen’s goals and objectives.
• Engage with clinical investigators and sites in support of the obesity and related conditions pipeline.
• Engage with Population Health Decision Makers within assigned integrated delivery networks and other institutions to communicate clinically valuable scientific, outcomes, and economic data.
• Connect external and internal stakeholders to amplify Amgen’s reach and patient access.
• Conduct in-depth scientific exchange, providing focused and balanced clinical and scientific information consistent with MSL compliance standards.
• Support Amgen-sponsored research and potentially serve as a study lead.
• Liaise with potential investigators in non-sponsored clinical research.
• Provide field observations and insights to internal stakeholders to inform Amgen strategies.
• Lead and support congress activities in alignment with strategy.
• Support speaker training as requested and ensure speakers are updated on new data.
• Lead or participate in project teams supporting MSL strategies and tactics as delegated by MSL leadership.
• Partner compliantly across Amgen field roles that share customers to create a coordinated One Amgen experience.
• Help healthcare providers take action to improve patient care and close care gaps related to obesity and related conditions.
• Complete administrative responsibilities and training, including Veeva CRM, expense reports, and compliance modules, in a timely manner.
• Maintain and improve clinical and scientific expertise using current data, information, and healthcare trends.
