Sr Mechanical/Project Engineer - Integration

Blue OriginSpace Coast, FL
Onsite

About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. Sr Mechanical/Project Engineer - Integration As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will serve in a dual capacity, hands-on mechanical designer and primary point of contact for planning, coordinating, and executing the integration, testing, activation, and handoff of ground mechanical systems for Blue Origin’s launch site at LC-36 (Cape Canaveral, FL). This role requires equal competency in design and cross-functional coordination. You’ll have the unique opportunity to be part of a great team building the ground mechanical and structural systems and GSE (Ground Support Equipment) for Blue Origin’s giant rockets, New Glenn and New Glenn 9x4!

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or similar disciplines.
  • 10+ years experience with a strong background in design/analysis/construction of large and complex mechanical systems (e.g. launch vehicle GSE and mechanisms, aerospace tooling, oil & gas mechanical systems, etc).
  • Demonstrated competency in both design and systems integration/activation.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience managing complex mechanical systems integration, testing, and activation.
  • Experience leading mechanical designs from concept through commissioning.
  • Mechanical design experience using CAD tools.
  • Mechanical analysis experience using FEA tools.
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Experience in heavy duty mechanism design (e.g. locking/clamps mechanisms, linkage design, quick release systems, alignment mechanisms, restraint/catch systems, etc).
  • Experience in designing and analyzing bolted connections, mechanical interfaces, and load-bearing joints in precision assemblies.

  • Experience in ANSYS.
  • Experience in PTC Creo/Windchill.
  • PMP certification.
  • Experience with system-level test and verification programs in an aerospace or launch site environment.
  • 3+ years direct GSE design and analysis experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop large-scale mechanical ground systems, mechanisms, and GSE.
  • Perform and review FEA and hand-calcs for complex mechanical systems.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for mechanical systems integration, testing, and activation, coordinate directly with engineers and field technicians to sequence work and maintain progress.
  • Develop and drive integrated schedules for fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, and activation, identify critical path and resolve schedule conflicts before they impact the program.
  • Track and communicate deliverable status, open issues, and schedule risks to program leadership, develop and drive mitigation plans.
  • Oversee external fabrication and installation contractors, ensure technical compliance, quality, and schedule adherence through the full project lifecycle.
  • Lead formal handoff of commissioned systems to operations, ensure all documentation, as-built records, and acceptance test results are complete and accepted.
