Designs complex mechanical aircraft interior furnishings and structures including ceilings, sidewalls, flooring, floor structure, and ceiling grids. Selects materials for mechanical designs based on structural needs, materials specifications, and trade-offs in materials, hardness, composites, treatments, and coatings. Works with Manufacturing Engineers to optimize designs for reduced parts counts, reduced manufacturing costs, reduced assembly error, and other production factors. Understands Bills of Materials, assembly concepts, and fabrication specifications for VIP aircraft interiors. Ensures designs meet customer criteria, quality standards, and FAA requirements. Provides liaison engineering support and support for test setup preparation and test report development. Uses 3D CAD (Inventor preferred) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD) for design and drafting. Applies knowledge of industry design, documentation, and drafting standards (ANSI Y14.5). Performs weight and balance analysis and mechanical motion modeling for interior systems. Integrates avionics equipment (LRUs) into interior designs including locating, provisioning, and installations.
