What We’re Looking For The Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer will serve as a technical leader of mechanical design for next-generation thermal imaging products. This role requires deep technical expertise, cross-functional leadership, and the ability to guide a team through the entire product lifecycle, from early concept to volume manufacturing. You will collaborate with electrical, optical, firmware, and manufacturing teams to deliver rugged, high-performance, and manufacturable products, while setting best practices. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will report directly to the VP of Engineering.

Requirements

Expertise in mechanical design using SolidWorks on molding and cast metal part fabrication.
Familiarity with IP-rated designs and environmental testing (shock, vibration, thermal cycling).
Knowledge of optical sensor packaging and EMI/thermal isolation strategies.
Deep experience with thermal management, environmental sealing, and ruggedized enclosures.
Strong background in precision mechanisms, DFM/DFA, and volume production processes.
Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
10+ years of experience in mechanical design for complex electromechanical or optoelectronic systems.
In exceptional cases, significant relevant experience may substitute for formal degree requirements.

Responsibilities

Lead the mechanical design architecture for multiple thermal imaging products and platforms.
Define mechanical design strategies that optimize performance, manufacturability, and cost.
Oversee complex tolerance, stress, thermal, and modal analyses.
Drive design from concept to production, including prototyping, EV/DV/PV Test phases, and launch.
Lead critical design and cross-functional reviews to ensure alignment across disciplines.
Manage schedules, risks, and trade-offs for mechanical deliverables.
Implement advanced mechanical solutions for ruggedized, high-precision, and thermally constrained systems.
Champion DFM/DFA practices and ensure smooth transition to high-volume manufacturing.
Establish and enforce engineering best practices, design standards, and documentation rigor.
Partner with optics, electronics, and industrial design teams to ensure seamless integration.
Engage with suppliers and SME's for material selection, process validation, and tooling optimization
