Position Summary: The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, and validation of mechanical components, subsystems, and systems for new and existing products. The Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a critical role across the full product lifecycle by partnering closely with internal and external stakeholders to address known and unplanned technical issues with robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective solutions. This position requires strong technical leadership, hands-on engineering capability, and the ability to balance new product development with ongoing manufacturing and product support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in an engineering design environment, preferably in an industry similar to that of Ergotron
  • Technical understanding of manufacturing processes including sheetmetal, welding, injection molding, extrusion, and casting
  • Experience with consumer products (electro-mechanical) design and manufacturing a plus.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and documentation methods including bills of material (BOM) and engineering change orders (ECO)
  • Self-motivated, creative, and capable of handling and prioritizing multiple projects
  • Ability to champion and model behavior reinforcing Ergotron’s core values
  • Must possess a collaborative working style that thrives in a cross-functional team environment
  • A track record of high achievement, meeting/exceeding goals, and driving results

  • Proficient with SolidWorks (or other 3D parametric modeling software)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must be able to travel as required (less than 10%, including possible international travel)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designing components that are injection molded, diecast, and several other manufacturing processes
  • Contributes to the progression of engineering capabilities and best practices
  • Develops validation plans alongside Testing, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering teams
  • Understands and facilitates Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews with internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborates with suppliers to review technical documentation, understand concerns that merit consideration, and conduct releases or revisions where necessary
  • Supports the creation of product requirements and engineering specifications for future products platforms
  • Reviews all documentation for design feasibility, intended impact, technical accuracy, and completeness
  • Assures designs meet the functional requirements as defined by technical specifications and pertinent regulatory standards
  • Participates in design reviews to communicate issues and gain consensus that proposed solutions are appropriate for the situation
  • Keeps abreast of new design, manufacturing, and material development practices
  • Coordinates prototyping and testing activities that verifies and validates design expectations are met
  • Additional duties as requested.
  • Supports site specific QMS initiatives for continuous process improvement.
