About The Position

As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Turnaround, you will provide mechanical engineering support to the turnaround organization. This position owns the Engineering and Design process for all expense projects for all turnaround scopes past FEL-1, and select justifiable pending major scope items that align with the scope collection strategy. You’ll also assist the refinery with scope categorization and risk ranking of the requested scope.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an Engineering discipline
  • 3 or more years of engineering experience in maintenance and turnarounds
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to comply with the following: Travel up to 5%
  • Operate company vehicle on site premises and/or public roads
  • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, and perform occasional duties
  • Transport articles up to 50 pounds
  • Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet
  • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines, around chemicals and hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat, and in harsh weather conditions
  • Work outside in harsh weather conditions
  • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment
  • Maintain face daily for proper respirator/face mask seal (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

Nice To Haves

  • 5 or more years of experience working as a Turnaround or Maintenance Engineer at a refinery
  • Working knowledge of: SA, Equity Engineering Plant Manager, PCMS, API-RBI Software, API 579, API 571, ASME B31.3
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook Suite (Outlook Email, Word, and Excel programs)
  • Familiar with Stress analysis processes
  • Management of KMS and MOC related action related to demolition projects
  • Preparation of quote requests, develop bid specifications, review and selection of suppliers, coordination of the same with project controls and procurement
  • Collecting, categorizing, and driving accurate risk ranking of event scope
  • Analyzing work requests, assist planning team with establishing conceptual estimates; recommending methodology, equipment, and material requirements
  • Production and assembly of simple work packages for planning
  • Definition of scope-specific hold points for the planning team as required by plant specifications
  • Evaluation of equipment maintenance and operation history and making technical recommendations
  • Understanding of construction techniques and sequences (cranes, scaffolds, NDE, welding, equipment, tools, etc.)
  • Management of off-site or remote engineering and design personnel and companies
  • Coordination of engineering and design personnel supporting Reliability, Instrumentation, Electrical, or Process Engineering Deliverables
  • Coordination and management of shop fabrication and repairs
  • Creating safety awareness and providing leadership to their team so they will perform their duties in compliance with applicable P66 and refinery safety policies
  • Mentoring and training team members in areas of expertise
  • Strong and effective communication skills (verbal and written) in both individual and group settings
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work well with others
  • Strong time management / organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, and implementation of mechanical solutions for fixed equipment such as pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, and tanks.
  • Analyze complex engineering challenges, develop and refine equipment specifications, and oversee installation, operation, and maintenance activities to ensure reliability and compliance.
  • Serve as a lead technical resource in Turnaround scope development, planning, and execution.
  • Manage and supervise the piping design process for turnaround scope.
  • Facilitate the adoption of new technologies and best practices, participate in professional society activities, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant codes and standards.
  • Develop and review repair plans, support the Mechanical Integrity Team, and ensure all team members and contractors are properly trained.
  • Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and technical excellence to drive the reliability and performance of refinery assets while supporting broader organizational goals.
