Sr. Mechanical Engineer - System Integration

VEIRWoburn, MA
1d$140,000 - $155,000

About The Position

VEIR is enabling a new generation of compact, efficient, high-power, and long-distance power delivery solutions, solving bottlenecks that exist across the entire electricity value chain, from generation through to data center server racks. VEIR's low voltage superconducting solutions are enabling new power delivery architectures in the world’s largest data centers and our higher voltage solutions are poised to revolutionize the development of electricity transmission and distribution lines. VEIR is preparing for rapid growth as we seek to solve critical challenges facing data center developers, electricity generation developers, and utilities around the world. VEIR is seeking a qualified Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our System Integration & Heat Transfer team. This individual will play a critical role in the design & mechanical analysis of VEIR’s superconducting cable and related components and will help develop our first major commercial products.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong foundation in mechanical, structural, & thermal analysis.
  • Experience with high temperature superconductors, cryogenics, and cable systems.
  • End-to-end experience across the product development life cycle: from concept development, through preliminary & detailed design, and into production.
  • Skilled in mechanical design via CAD, first-order structural & thermal calculations.
  • Experience creating engineering drawings for external fabrication.
  • A continuous improvement mindset to innovate and optimize system designs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration, vendor management, and team mentoring.
  • Willingness to travel for short durations during product deployment phases.
  • You bring a solid background in mechanical engineering, ideally with extensive experience in structural mechanics and FEA.
  • Known for your precision and your ability to ideate, iterate, and execute complex designs.
  • You are an outstanding communicator (written and verbal) across all levels of the organization and can work effectively in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
  • You are a highly motivated, self-starter with a positive approach to problem solving
  • You are driven by results - you gauge your success in measurable positive impact (not in how much you check off the to do list) and know how to ruthlessly prioritize
  • You thrive on effectively managing multiple projects with competing priorities that require making decisions under pressure and working under tight deadlines
  • You are highly curious and solutions-oriented, and excel at deconstructing complex problems into manageable components to develop effective solutions
  • You are committed to buying into VEIR’s mission and goals, and adopting our core values

Nice To Haves

  • Skilled in coding with MATLAB, Python, or similar languages is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in mechanical and structural design of our superconducting cable and related components.
  • Own and lead the design, development, and testing of key components for low-voltage and medium-voltage superconducting systems, from concept through to fabrication.
  • Define mechanical requirements and oversee qualification testing for system components, managing both in-house and external resources.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support system deployment, ensuring the integration of cryogenic thermal management systems.
  • Review design calculations, drawings, and submittals from junior engineers, mentoring and guiding them in their development.
  • Interface with vendors and manufacturers to maintain timelines and quality standards for component fabrication.

Benefits

  • Healthcare coverage with 100% employer paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision
  • 401(k) Retirement Savings Program
