About The Position

The Precision Control Actuation System department is seeking a mechanical design engineer to join the PCAS organization to support the development, build, and verification of control actuation systems. The PCAS organization staffs mechanical engineers for a variety of roles supporting primarily control section Integrated Product Teams. At this grade level, the individual will be expected to work autonomously with regular and periodic oversight, have advanced knowledge of the control mechanism development domain, and coach and review the work of lower level professionals. You will provide various mechanical engineering support as needs of programs fluctuate. Based on skillsets, support may include but is not limited to detailed mechanical design, earned value management, test design and execution, and systems engineering. You will be expected to flex responsibilities based on the current needs of the organization and their respective skill sets. The PCAS organization provides ample opportunities for hands-on hardware work. PCAS mechanical engineers are exposed to a variety of lab activities including engineering builds, hardware integration, hardware tuning, and hardware verification. The PCAS organization provides a strong technical learning environment with a dedicated control system technology pyramid comprised of engineering fellows. PCAS mechanical engineers are provided the opportunity for direct access to these subject matter experts, fostering accelerated technical growth.

Requirements

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience OR An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.
  • Experience in mechanical mechanism design OR flight control systems for aerospace applications.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • Active and existing security clearance required on day 1.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing flight control systems for aerospace applications.
  • Experience performing structural and modal analysis using tools such as Ansys.
  • Experience designing and/or working with test equipment.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings per ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T Standard.
  • Basic proficiency with model development and data analysis in MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience working with and integrating hardware.
  • Flexibility to travel to supplier sites (including United Kingdom) for TIMs.
  • Experience collaborating with major subtier suppliers.
  • Basic knowledge of DOORS, CAMEO, and/or other requirements management tools.
  • Systems engineering design and development.
  • Experience with dSPACE Real-time test systems.
  • Proven ability to deconstruct higher level tasks into discrete lower-level work packages and tasks.
  • Ability to estimate project / tasks level of effort.
  • Ability to cross collaborate with geographically distributed teams including international.
  • Experience and certifications in Earned Value Project Management.
  • Ability to articulate, in both oral and written form, to technical, non-technical and management audiences.
