About The Position

The Senior Mechanical CAD Designer creates designs and technical drawings for fixturing & test equipment. They work closely with engineers and other professionals to create and improve manufacturing systems or processes and develop drawings for a wide variety of machines. Mechanical CAD designer reviews specifications and other data to develop mechanical layouts.

Requirements

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Deep CAD knowledge.
  • Strong computer and mathematical skills.
  • Strong SolidWorks and/or CREO skills.
  • Knowledge of 3DX Product Lifecycle Management tool.
  • Possess strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent planning and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-31000.
  • Strong understanding of ANSI Y14.5 dimensioning & tolerancing.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Team player able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Requires a Technical or Associate's degree in drafting, mechanical engineering, or manufacturing engineering or other relevant field.
  • Requires 10+ years of experience designing in 3D CAD and producing 2D drawings using SolidWorks and/or CREO.

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience in a defense contracting environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare calculations on the proposed machine before completing technical drawings.
  • Sketch and draw up designs using input from engineers and architects on the team.
  • Calculate factors like tolerance, dimensions, and thermal and structural analysis.
  • Create designs in line with company procedure, regulations and client standards.
  • Submit drawings to upper management and construction teams.
  • Provide support during the building and installation process, ensuring that the equipment is built properly and according to design specifications.
  • Finalize designs and send prints to the production department.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior staff.
