About The Position

Eaton’s Mission Systems Division is currently seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer. This position is based at our Orchard Park, NY facility and is responsible for supporting research and new product development in Eaton’s Mission Systems Division (MSD). The engineer performs tasks including design, analysis, risk management, planning, and coordination with other technical functions and program management related to all work within the scope of assigned projects. The engineer often acts as a technical leader for large projects or multiple smaller projects. They will contribute effectively towards team goals and influence those within their function and beyond to meet the needs of internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in system, product design, development, and/or production design problem resolution.
  • Must be a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158.
  • Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Orchard Park, NY will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute product design activities in accordance with project cost and schedule constraints.
  • Develop conceptual designs into mature product solutions.
  • Manage technical risks through thorough identification, prioritization of risk mitigation activities, and data-driven design changes, where appropriate.
  • Develop engineering standards and design guides to support continuous improvement within the relevant engineering domain.
  • Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles, including: Careful management of Critical to Quality requirements throughout the design lifecycle, Rigorous knowledge building of the design space, Understanding the effects of manufacturing variation, Designing for manufacturing and assembly to meet product recurring cost targets.
  • Work directly with internal and external customers, suppliers, project engineers, design engineers, test engineers, sustainment engineers, Centers of Excellence, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, program management, and other functions to develop systems and products.
  • Coach junior engineers within the incumbent’s specified domain.
