About The Position

Lanteris Space is seeking a self-motivated and innovative Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Solar Array, Battery, and Mechanisms team at our San Jose, CA office. In this role, you will contribute to the development of next-generation solar power systems for our Class 300 spacecraft while also supporting the existing 1300 product line. This is an opportunity to apply your expertise in mechanical design and space hardware development to enable advanced space exploration missions.

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 5 years of experience

Responsibilities

  • Design, modify, and develop hardware to meet evolving system and mission requirements.
  • Perform or coordinate analyses and testing to support qualification and ensure compliance with program standards, documenting all qualification activities.
  • Act as the primary technical interface across Customers, Systems Engineering, Subsystems, and Program Management teams.
  • Develop and deliver formal technical presentations, including Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, and other program milestones for internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Create, revise, and release engineering drawings and manufacturing procedures in alignment with program schedules established by Project Management.
  • Provide hands-on, day-to-day support for production operations, including real-time troubleshooting, design guidance, and issue resolution.
  • Design, fabricate, and validate fixtures and tooling to support manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Mentor junior engineers, provide technical oversight, and conduct thorough pre-release and in-process design/document reviews using established checklists and standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and engineering operations within the factory environment.
  • Lead failure analysis efforts for production and flight hardware issues, driving root cause identification and corrective actions.
  • Review, disposition, and close non-conformances while ensuring implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes in collaboration with technicians; document and formally release all process definitions.
  • Contribute to production planning by providing scheduling input and design considerations to support efficient execution.
