About The Position

CIRCOR Aerospace Inc. (CAI) is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer for its Hauppauge, NY facility. This role is responsible for executing assigned design work to support engineering project activity, focusing on the conceptual design and development of pneumatic valve and control systems. The engineer will interpret customer specifications to design and develop aerospace-qualified hardware, utilizing CAD tools and collaborating to generate necessary documentation. The Hauppauge facility manufactures and supplies engineered critical control components and sub-systems for the aerospace and defense market, featuring a class 10K clean room, model line cells for pneumatic systems, and a production area for kinetic switch components.

Requirements

  • BSME degree required.
  • 12 years minimum experience in the design and development of pneumatic valves or similar complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience in design of detail mechanical components/control valves.
  • Some project management experience.
  • Technical Writing experience (Acceptance Test Procedures, Design Reports, Qualification Test Procedure/Reports).
  • Hands-On Experience in assembly, setup and testing, troubleshooting, and laboratory testing.
  • Experience with electrical testing and precision testing using meters.
  • Experience performing GD&T on complex assemblies based on the latest guidelines.
  • Understanding of Requirements Management, including change configuration management, traceability, validation and verification.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, Concurrent Engineering environment.
  • Ability to prioritize, balance, and manage multiple efforts with strong results/goal orientation.
  • Agility and personal adaptability with the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities with a high sense of urgency in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Knowledge of component design and analysis techniques and utilization of best Engineering practices.

  • Solidworks knowledge is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned design work to support engineering project activity.
  • Perform conceptual design and development of pneumatic valve and control systems (e.g., regulators, solenoid valves).
  • Interpret customer specifications to design and develop aerospace-qualified hardware.
  • Design specialized pneumatic valves using CADD tools to meet customer requests.
  • Collaborate to generate details, assembly drawings, models, bills of materials (BOM), and associated production and development procedures/reports.
  • Create new designs in accordance with customer requirements and verify compliance to performance and scope of work specifications.
  • Generate design modifications to existing pneumatic designs to satisfy new customer-driven requirements.
  • Provide design solutions to manufacturing problems and support sustaining business.
  • Coordinate and/or prepare the creation of production drawings and documentation.
  • Review, coordinate, and/or draft procedures for hardware development, acceptance, and qualification testing.
  • Provide technical and supervisory guidance to personnel assigned to support projects, including proposal and development work.
  • Direct the building of prototypes and development hardware.
  • Complete forms and relevant documentation within the Engineering department for procurement, fabrication, and testing.
  • Perform and/or verify engineering testing/calculations to meet performance and safety margins.
  • Prepare and present information packages, including all typical supplier document requirement lists (SDRL), for internal design reviews.
  • Investigate production problems and search for solutions; advise and assist other department members on design issues.
