About The Position

Our Moog Space Vehicles Group is looking for a Sr Mechanical Design Engineer to design, update, and support the development of our existing spacecraft product lines as well as new spacecraft mission capabilities. This role requires an onsite work schedule in Arvada, Colorado with responsibilities as an integral member of the Engineering team. Moog Space Vehicles delivers customer-focused technologies and customized solutions for our spacecraft and space vehicle customers using our existing Meteor and Meteorite spacecraft product lines. This role spans internally facing engagements with the Space Vehicles team, as well as externally facing engagements with prospective business partners and customers. The Mechanical Design Engineer will support proposal development and external solicitation responses by contributing to engineering analyses and designs, and communicating trade spaces with various stakeholders. The successful candidate will play an important role in gate reviews governing the handoffs from Business Development to Engineering, and Engineering to Production, considering comprehensive requirements understanding, and design for manufacturability.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Ten years’ relevant experience, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience presenting complex topics.
  • In depth knowledge of 3D parametric CAD software (Solidworks, Siemens NX).
  • Drafting and Design experience per ANSI Standards.
  • Experience in an engineering or product testing/manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with industry-standard Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Design for Manufacturability experience or education.
  • SolidWorks & Siemens NX CAD modelling and drawing experience.
  • Experience with Siemens TeamCenter configuration management software.
  • Understanding of quality processes and familiarity with product safety documentation.
  • Understanding and experience with overall spacecraft design principles and typical spacecraft hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Support the creation and modification of the mechanical requirements and design for new and existing products.
  • Review and evaluate product requests from customer and Moog new business team and formulate conceptual designs and CAD models to meet requirements.
  • Evaluate product design for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, quality standards, and specifications.
  • Support drafting, documentation, and configuration management activities.
  • Investigate production issues with existing designs during the manufacturing process.
  • Provide technical alternatives for and coordinate the solution for material and manufacturing issues including manufacturability with existing production designs.
  • Design and development of test fixtures for use during environmental testing.
  • Support engineering change management activities through ECR, ECO, and DCO processes using the approved PLM database.
