Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer - Modular Solutions

Maverick PowerMcKinney, TX
1dHybrid

About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical specification, design, and integration of modular power solutions for mission-critical facilities. This role owns the end-to-end mechanical scope for E-Houses (modular electrical buildings), Power Distribution Centers (PDCs), and medium-voltage/low-voltage (MV/LV) skids supporting data center power trains and related industrial applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum of 8 years of mechanical design experience with modular power systems, industrial buildings, or skid-mounted equipment.
  • Experience and understanding of foundation requirements/recommendations and anchoring details for skid-mounted solutions, including providing load data, anchor bolt plans/patterns, and installation/leveling guidance for EPC/civil execution.
  • Demonstrated experience owning mechanical scope for at least two of the following: E-Houses/modular electrical buildings, PDCs, MV/LV skids, UPS plants, or data center power modules.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC/ventilation design for equipment rooms (heat loads, airflow management, equipment selection, integration constraints).
  • Experience coordinating fire detection/suppression interfaces and life-safety-related mechanical features in enclosed industrial or mission-critical environments.
  • Experience supporting lithium-ion battery spaces (battery rooms, containerized energy storage, UPS battery installations, or similar) from a mechanical integration perspective.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and work at heights for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (or active path toward licensure).
  • Direct experience with data center modular power platforms (repeatable product lines) and uptime-driven redundancy philosophies.
  • Experience with BESS/containerized energy storage systems, including coordination with compliance testing, certification, or AHJ acceptance workflows.
  • Familiarity with applicable energy storage safety and listing standards (e.g., NFPA 855 and UL 9540/9540A) and how they influence mechanical design decisions.
  • Experience with acoustic control, airflow/CFD analysis, or FEA/structural verification related to modular skids and transport loads.

Responsibilities

  • Own the complete mechanical design lifecycle: requirements capture, concept development, detailed design, fabrication support, and field integration.
  • Develop equipment layouts and general arrangements (2D/3D) with clearances for installation, operation, maintenance, and safe egress.
  • Engineer structural bases and skid features including baseframes, lifting/rigging points, transport restraints, and interface points for anchoring and alignment.
  • Develop foundation interface requirements and installation recommendations for skidded solutions, including anchoring/hold-down details (anchor bolt patterns, shear transfer, leveling/grouting considerations, and installation tolerances) in coordination with civil/structural design teams.
  • Coordinate mechanical packaging to support repeatable modular fabrication (DFM/DFA), shipping constraints, and field install efficiency.
  • Perform heat-load assessments and develop HVAC/ventilation designs for electrical rooms, UPS rooms, and battery/energy storage spaces.
  • Select, size, and integrate HVAC equipment (packaged units, split systems, CRAC-style equipment where applicable) including airflow distribution, filtration, and moisture control.
  • Create layouts for ducting, louvers, dampers, intake/exhaust paths, and service clearances; coordinate control points and interlocks with controls engineering.
  • Integrate fire and life safety features into modular electrical buildings and skids, including detection, alarm interfaces, and emergency shutdown/ventilation control logic.
  • Coordinate fire suppression system requirements (clean agent and/or water-based solutions as applicable) with enclosure integrity, ventilation shutdown, and post-event purge concepts.
  • Lead mechanical design considerations specific to lithium-ion battery deployments, including room/container environment control and equipment layout for safe maintenance.
