About The Position

The Power Delivery Engineering & Technical Services Department at Florida Power & Light is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer to join their team at the Reliability Assurance Center, Riviera Beach, FL. The Reliability Assurance Center provides materials, electrical, corrosion, and field-testing services for comprehensive evaluation of new products, failed components, and in-service equipment. This role is primarily to perform laboratory failure analysis on a wide range of components. An employee in this role must have knowledge or experience with materials testing, selection, corrosion, coatings, and failure analysis. You must be capable of designing, carrying out, and interpreting materials and product testing based on standards, and non-standard tests requested by internal customers. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, with the ability to create clear and concise technical reports, emails, and presentations to technical and non-technical audiences. This is a hands-on role that requires operating equipment such as SEM, OES, optical microscopes, mechanical testing equipment, large shop equipment, hazardous chemicals, and hand tools. In addition, the person in this position must be capable of lifting equipment up to 50 pounds, climb and work from ladders, occasionally working outside, and operating heavy equipment such as a forklift and manlift. As a VPP Star Site, the Reliability Assurance Center provides extensive safety training to employees to help ensure we meet our goal of having no injuries. It is expected that every employee not only follow all safety rules and policies but are actively engaged in maintaining and improving the safety program at the Reliability Assurance Center. This position provides an Engineer with the opportunity to develop a diverse skill set and understanding of equipment design and failure modes, and field and lab testing activities. Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License (NON CDL)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (non-Engineering Technology), OR Master’s degree in Engineering, if the bachelor’s degree is not in a pure engineering field.
  • At least one degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) must be from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 5+ years post-Bachelor’s degree in engineering

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering, design and environmental support
