About The Position

1X is building humanoid robots for home use, aiming to give people their time back by solving robotics, AI, and manufacturing challenges at scale. NEO is their flagship home robot designed to move, learn, and operate safely alongside people, and the company is focused on shipping this product. The Compliance team ensures that the humanoid robots meet global battery, safety, and regulated materials requirements, working closely with Hardware Engineering, Reliability, Manufacturing, and external certification bodies for worldwide product launches. As a Materials and Battery Compliance Engineer, you will lead battery and materials compliance efforts for the humanoid robot platform, interpreting global regulatory requirements, driving certification programs, and collaborating cross-functionally to ensure products meet safety and market access requirements in key global markets.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in battery compliance, materials compliance, or product certification engineering
• Hands-on experience with UL certification processes and related battery safety standards
• Direct experience with standards including UN 38.3, UL 1642, UL 2054, IEC 62133-2:2017, and ANSI/NEMA C18
• Strong working knowledge of global materials regulations including RoHS, REACH, WEEE, Conflict Minerals, and California Prop 65
• Experience managing certification testing programs, compliance documentation, and external certification partners
• Deep technical expertise in battery compliance standards and global materials regulations
• Strong program management capability across complex, cross-functional certification efforts
• Ability to interpret ambiguous regulations and operationalize them into practical engineering requirements

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with materials characterization and analytical test equipment including SEM-EDX, FTIR, XRF, ICP-MS / ICP-AES, GC/MS, and Ion Chromatography
• Experience supporting battery certification programs across multiple global markets

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute global certification strategies for battery systems and regulated materials supporting product launch timelines
• Translate regulatory requirements into actionable engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain requirements
• Lead pre-certification and formal certification testing activities, including issue resolution and corrective actions
• Own compliance documentation, labeling requirements, test reports, and certification evidence packages
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with certification labs, notified bodies, and regulatory agencies
