About The Position

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer provides complete Manufacturing Solutions from Technical Planning to Advanced Modeling and CNC programming. The SME has expert knowledge of manufacturing processes and can define the correct inputs/outputs to these processes. The SME can provide definition to all disciplines within manufacturing, including development of work instructions, process routings, tooling design, design reviews, and project management. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer has a vast understanding of Customer specifications and can interpret these specifications into internal requirements. The SME is consulted when arbitration is needed when determining acceptance to standards. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is tasked with developing processes for new and highly complex projects. The SME will review Customer designs and offer input to improve cost and manufacturability. The SME will also train staff to these new processes and apply best/safest practices. The SME will test and implement new technology and help drive efforts to improve the Customer Experience. This position is in NorthStar’s Engineering Department and reports to the Engineering Manager. The position works with all levels of employees throughout the organization as necessary but does not directly or indirectly supervise any other employees.

Requirements

BS Degree in Mechanical engineering/ Manufacturing Engineering or related engineering discipline.
Minimum of 10 years of industry experience, preferable in aerospace.
Able to read blueprints and have extensive experience applying GD&T to manufacturing operations.
Must be extremely competent in CAD/CAM systems, specifically NX12.
Must have recent programming experience including milling, turning, and in-machine probing.
Must have recent experience machining aluminum, magnesium, and alloy steels.
Must have a solid understanding of metal cutting technology.
Must be computer competent with MS Office, Project, and ERP systems.
Must be familiar with specifications, and requirements for aerospace component manufacturing.
Knowledgeable of aerospace welding, heat treatment, machining, and special processes.
Abide by established policies, plans, methods, procedures, deadlines, and priorities.
Must be dependable, professional, flexible, have a positive attitude and a solid work history.

Responsibilities

Develop Manufacturing process using 3D models to define each manufacturing sequence.
Conduct a design review with key stakeholders to identify potential manufacturing defects.
Perform PFMEA and implement corrective actions.
Develop in-process drawings and inspection plan to provide process control.
Develop CNC code with emphasis on error free output, using verification and stock analysis tools.
Design and develop tooling to support the Manufacturing process.
Read and interpret blueprints, symbols and geometric tolerances based on military and commercial specifications.
Provide manufacturing support to shop floor personnel.
Develop and maintain the production shop floor travelers.
Investigate and correct quality issues related to the new product.
Serve as technical liaison with customer engineering and quality personnel.
