The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical and people leader who can translate complex vehicle and factory requirements into scalable end-of-line test strategies, resilient functional integration processes, and disciplined launch execution. This role is based on-site in Normal, Illinois and requires close partnership with factory leadership and cross-functional engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree is a plus
  • 10+ years of experience in automotive, aerospace, industrial automation, electronics manufacturing, or a comparable complex production environment
  • 5+ years of experience leading technical teams, including managers and senior engineers
  • Demonstrated experience with vehicle systems validation, diagnostics, end-of-line testing, or comprehensive manufacturing test systems
  • Experience launching or scaling production systems in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of test strategy, requirements management, configuration control, defect triage, and production data analysis
  • Experience integrating factory test systems and equipment with vehicle platforms, manufacturing execution systems, databases, or plant networks
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity, make timely decisions, and communicate effectively with both technical and executive audiences
  • Willingness to work on-site in Normal, Illinois and support production launches, critical issue resolution, and occasional off-shift activities when needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automotive manufacturing, vehicle systems validation, diagnostics, or functional commissioning
  • Experience with CAN, LIN, Ethernet, UDS, or similar vehicle communication and diagnostic protocols
  • Familiarity with automated test equipment, National Instruments or comparable platforms, PLC/controls integration, and industrial networking
  • Experience with manufacturing execution systems, test databases, cloud-connected production data, or digital traceability
  • Working knowledge of software development practices, APIs, version control, CI/CD concepts, and release management
  • Experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, statistical process control, or structured problem-solving methods
  • Track record of leading new product introduction, plant transformation, or major factory test system deployments

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of managers and engineers responsible for factory functional test integration, validation systems, diagnostics, and production readiness
  • Own the strategy and execution of functional testing across vehicle build, commissioning, end-of-line, rework, and audit processes
  • Establish factory functional testing standards spanning vehicle configuration, systems validation, diagnostics, test sequencing, traceability, and data capture
  • Partner with Vehicle Engineering and Software teams to convert design intent and test requirements into manufacturable, repeatable production processes
  • Drive launch readiness for new vehicle programs, major software and system updates, plant changes, and process upgrades, including validation plans, cutover plans, and issue containment
  • Define and manage requirements for test equipment, fixtures, automation, network interfaces, manufacturing execution systems, and production data infrastructure
  • Create a closed-loop approach to test failures by improving fault isolation, diagnostic coverage, repair guidance, retest logic, and feedback to engineering
  • Lead cross-functional resolution of complex functional, controls, and manufacturing issues, balancing production continuity with long-term corrective action
  • Establish technical reviews, change-control processes, release criteria, and escalation mechanisms that protect safety, quality, throughput, and customer experience
  • Use production data and manufacturing analytics to identify test escapes, recurring failure modes, cycle-time opportunities, and process capability improvements
  • Ensure processes and systems meet applicable safety, quality, cybersecurity, traceability, and change-management expectations
  • Build strong relationships with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, IT/OT, Service, and external equipment and technology partners
