About The Position

The Senior Manager – Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting role, located in Chicago, IL, reports directly into the Chief Accounting Officer. This position is responsible for all technical accounting and accounting policy matters, including debt modifications/refinancings, goodwill impairment analyses, and revenue recognition. The role will lead the preparation of quarterly financial reporting to lenders and annual U.S. GAAP financial statements. Additionally, the role will coordinate the preparation of the annual tax provision and annual tax compliance filings with third-party tax providers and assist with other controllership activities. The individual will interact with the global CFO, segment CFOs, business unit finance directors, and collaborate cross-functionally with FP&A and Treasury.

Requirements

  • 5 – 8 years of public accounting or commensurate industry experience
  • CPA a must
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP technical accounting matters and ability to perform technical accounting research in areas such as goodwill, leases, revenue recognition, and business combinations
  • High-level understanding of U.S. tax compliance requirements and ASC 740 tax accounting
  • Exposure to PCAOB audit requirements a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently to solve problems

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical accounting research and analysis related to complex transactions and other arrangements, including debt modifications/refinancings, segment and reporting unit analyses, annual goodwill impairment testing, long-lived asset impairments, business combinations, lease accounting, technical conclusions, accounting process(es), revenue recognition, fixed asset accounting, and inventory accounting.
  • Lead the Company’s adoption of new accounting standards.
  • Lead preparation of the quarterly financial statements to lenders, including balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows.
  • Lead preparation of the annual audited financial statements, ensuring disclosures are complete and accurate in accordance with US GAAP disclosure requirements.
  • Ensure complex transactions (debt refinancings, acquisitions, etc.) are appropriately reflected and disclosed.
  • Lead project to update the Company’s accounting policies and procedures, including education/training related to changes in policy.
  • Serve as owner and reviewer of quarterly certification questionnaires.
  • Oversee the Company’s annual tax provision process, including owning the relationship with 3rd party tax provision providers and managing the PBC process.
  • Serve as liaison between 3rd party tax provision provider and external auditors/tax compliance providers.
  • Oversee the Company’s overall global tax compliance, including owning relationships with 3rd party tax compliance providers, managing the PBC process, reviewing output, and following up with taxing authorities.
  • Oversee/manage the completion of annual transfer pricing studies with 3rd party provider.
  • Ensure timely and accurate quarterly tax payments and oversee the quarterly cash tax forecast.
  • Assist in providing guidance on tax implications of proposed business transactions.
  • Provide ad hoc involvement in sale process and/or mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence, accounting integration, and purchase accounting.
  • Support various aspects of the year-end audit, including coordination of annual physical inventory counts and alignment with external auditors on accounting treatment for unusual transactions.
  • Assist in month-end close activities as required, including reviewing account reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Handle other special projects as required.
