Sr Manager – Structural Engineering

Blue Origin•Space Coast, FL

About The Position

As Senior Manager of the structures team, you will lead structural engineers designing, developing, and delivering ground structures and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for Blue Origin’s launch operations at LC-36 in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The role combines technical leadership and people management: setting technical direction, developing engineers, driving execution, and serving as the primary interface between the team and program leadership. This is a technical management role that requires continued engagement with the engineering work, engineering judgment on critical design decisions, and credible technical leadership with program stakeholders. The position is part of Blue Origin Operations, which includes Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance, and provides manufacturing and supply-chain support across Blue Origin facilities. The role oversees structural design programs from concept through fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, activation, commissioning, and operations, while coordinating with external partners and cross-functional teams.

  • 12 or more years of experience with a strong background in design, analysis, or construction of large and complex steel structural systems.
  • 6 or more years of direct engineering management or team-lead experience, including performance management and career development of direct reports.
  • Experience with structural and mechanical analysis using FEA tools.
  • Experience designing and analyzing large weldments, steel-frame structures, and bolted and welded connections.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE, AISC, and AWS.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Demonstrated experience leading structural design programs from concept through commissioning and operations, including managing external design and fabrication partners.

  • Directly manage structural engineers supporting large steel structures and GSE design.
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard engineering talent, and build and maintain a strong team pipeline.
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and career-development conversations; identify skill gaps and create targeted growth plans for direct reports.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and safety-first team culture.
  • Own team deliverables and manage scope, schedule, budget, and technical quality across multiple concurrent structural design programs.
  • Identify and communicate risks early and drive mitigation plans.
  • Oversee external design and fabrication partners, ensuring technical compliance, quality, and schedule adherence through fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, and activation.
  • Coordinate with program managers, systems engineers, and operations leads to align priorities and operations.
