About The Position

The Senior Manager of Procurement is responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans to improve the financial performance of the organization and make specific recommendations for both cost out and cost avoidance. This person is responsible for continuous opportunity assessment related to commodities and categories within their span of control, and will be held accountable for specific goals and objectives in support of the overall departmental metrics. The Senior manager of procurement is responsible for all contractual agreements as well as compliance with purchase to pay and/or accounting control activities. With strategic partnership and alliance this person supports cross functional activities across multiple organizations such as, Store Operations, IT, Merchandising, Logistics, and Constructions/Maintenance. This person will be responsible for $250mm-$1bb in annual spend.

Requirements

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
  • 8 years of work experience.
  • Strong analytical and administrative skills.
  • Superb negotiation skills to interface with suppliers and internal management.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Known expert in the category or commodity.
  • Excellent knowledge of the category and how it fits into overall business strategy.
  • Ability to define vendor strategy at category level, establish vendor relationship guidelines and expectations.
  • Ability to make decisions on whether to maintain, exit, or source new vendors.
  • Extensive experience with financial systems that support the procurement function.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and other colleagues.
  • Demonstrate initiative, mature judgment, customer service orientation, and ability to anticipate needs of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • MA/MS/MBA degree in a business-related field.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.
  • Experience in process implementation and required internal controls.
  • Extensive experience with procurement and capital project management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to improve financial performance, focusing on cost reduction and avoidance.
  • Conduct continuous opportunity assessments for commodities and categories within their scope.
  • Manage all contractual agreements and ensure compliance with purchase-to-pay and accounting controls.
  • Support cross-functional activities with departments like Store Operations, IT, Merchandising, Logistics, and Construction/Maintenance.
  • Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans for key categories, including supplier management, contract management, procurement tools, and reporting.
  • Support the centralized procurement function for consolidated purchasing of goods and services.
  • Lead negotiations for products and services to ensure THD's specifications, quality, and best value are met.
  • Partner with process improvement teams to establish cost-out and cost-avoidance metrics.
  • Develop and support strategic alliances with business partners and participate in cross-functional activities to solve business issues and enhance competitive advantage.
  • Motivate and manage direct reports through goal setting, coaching, performance feedback, recognition, and accountability.
  • Assess associate strengths and weaknesses, provide constructive feedback, and participate in staff selection and performance evaluations.
  • Assign projects and monitor progress related to strategic sourcing activities.
