About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Sr. Manager, Sponsored Programs to work at the UHealth campus in Miami, Fl. The Sr. Manager, Sponsored Programs oversees administrative and financial aspects of the Sponsored Programs division. The incumbent operates with the objective of increasing sponsored funding levels and the output of funding proposals, as well as maximizing the use and efficacy of existing research funding dollars. Additionally, the Sr. Manager, Sponsored Programs develops and implements policies and methods that are most effective to that end. The Sr. Manager, Sponsored Programs, is responsible for overseeing all pre-award activities related to clinical trials and research funding within Sponsored Programs. This role leads the development, negotiation, and execution of study budgets, contracts, and financial plans in collaboration with principal investigators, sponsors, and internal stakeholders (e.g., ORA/EDRO, CRS, Pharmacy, and departmental teams). The Sr. Manager ensures that all proposals and agreements align with institutional policies, sponsor requirements, and regulatory standards, while maintaining accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. This position also plays a key role in supporting study feasibility assessments, reviewing protocol-specific financial requirements, and facilitating a smooth transition from pre-award to post-award operations. In addition, the Sr. Manager supervises and mentors a team of analysts, ensuring appropriate workload distribution, quality control, and adherence to established procedures and performance metrics. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to manage high-volume portfolios, prioritize competing deadlines, and drive process improvements. The Sr. Manager is expected to maintain strong relationships with investigators and cross-functional partners, provide proactive updates on study status and funding timelines, and contribute to operational efficiency by identifying workflow gaps and implementing best practices that enhance service delivery and financial compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews all material budget variances with the appropriate senior staff and develops appropriate plans of corrective action.
  • Prepares monthly variance reports for programs’ management and development.
  • Assists in the preparation of grant reports for senior management.
  • Maintains portfolios for private and government grants and funds.
  • Develops and maintains grant allocation systems.
  • Manages monthly overhead and allocation tables and reallocates grant funds based on period reports.
  • Formulates comparative analyses of operating programs by analyzing costs in relation to services performed during previous fiscal years.
  • Creates and oversees budget, making recommendations for budget modifications when appropriate.
  • Approves all disbursement requests for accuracy in coding and availability of funds prior to commitment of funds.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
