About The Position

As the Sr. Manager, SOX Coordinator, you’ll support the company’s Sarbanes Oxley compliance program and broader accounting governance activities. Reporting to the VP of Accounting, you’ll serve as a key liaison between Accounting, business process owners, external auditors, and the company’s internal audit outsource partner. The Sr. Manager, SOX Coordinator will help coordinate the execution of the SOX program, maintain the risk and control matrix, support control design and documentation, administer Workiva Controls, and assist with the development and maintenance of accounting and internal control policies. This role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, practical experience with public company controls, and the ability to work cross functionally with both internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience working in or with a public company SOX environment required.
  • Prior experience with a Big 4 or large national public accounting firm required.
  • CPA or CIA certification required.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls over financial reporting, SOX requirements, control design principles, and financial reporting processes.
  • Experience maintaining risk and control matrices, process narratives, control documentation, and SOX testing materials.
  • Experience working with external auditors and internal audit providers.
  • Strong project management and coordination skills, with the ability to manage timelines, follow up on open items, and drive accountability across multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain control requirements clearly and practically.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to evaluate documentation for completeness, accuracy, and consistency.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Workiva Controls or a similar governance, risk, and compliance platform, preferred.
  • Experience supporting control design for new systems, process transformations, or acquisition integration, preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting policies, financial reporting risks, and public company governance expectations, preferred.
  • Experience working in a fast paced, growing public company environment, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the company’s SOX compliance program, including planning, documentation, testing coordination, issue tracking, and status reporting.
  • Own and maintain the company’s risk and control matrix, including updates for new processes, control changes, process improvements, and remediation activities.
  • Administer and maintain Workiva Controls, including control documentation, process narratives, testing support, evidence tracking, issue management, and reporting.
  • Work closely with process owners to evaluate control design, identify control gaps, and provide practical guidance on control enhancements.
  • Support the development, review, and maintenance of accounting policies, control policies, and related procedures.
  • Serve as a primary coordination point with the external auditor for SOX related requests, walkthroughs, control documentation, evidence gathering, and audit status tracking.
  • Partner with the company’s external internal audit outsource provider to coordinate SOX testing, align on timelines, review testing status, and support issue resolution.
  • Assist with control deficiency evaluations, including documentation of root cause, severity considerations, remediation plans, and management responses.
  • Support the VP of Accounting in monitoring SOX program progress, preparing status updates, and identifying areas for process improvement.
  • Help ensure control documentation remains accurate, complete, and aligned with current business processes and system changes.
  • Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, IT, Operations, HR, Legal, and other business teams to support a consistent and effective internal control environment.
  • Assist with readiness activities for new systems, process changes, acquisitions, new accounting standards, and other business changes that may impact internal controls.
  • Promote a practical, business oriented control mindset that supports compliance while enabling efficient operations.
