Sr. Manager of Applications and Data

American Carpet SouthPassaic, NJ

About The Position

ACS is looking for a strategic, technically deep Sr. Manager of Applications & Data to own delivery across our application portfolio: ensuring quality, reducing vendor dependency, and building the internal capability that scales with us. As the Sr. Manager of Applications & Data, you will serve as the technical owner of ACS’s application portfolio, including our proprietary CRM, SaaS systems, installer and customer-facing tools, integrations, and our reporting and analytics environment. You will direct our contracted development partners, hold their work to a defined standard, and use AI-assisted development tooling to document and de-risk our legacy systems as we modernize. Your work will directly impact delivery quality, technical debt, and vendor dependency; translating business requirements into systems that are built right and built to last.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in application development and delivery, including hands-on work with SQL Server, stored procedures, web application development, REST APIs, and system integrations.
  • At least 3 years directing outsourced, offshore, or contracted development teams with accountability for delivery outcomes rather than task coordination.
  • Demonstrated practical use of AI-assisted development tooling, with sufficient technical depth to validate and correct what those tools produce.
  • Working experience with low-code platforms such as Quickbase, Power Platform, or equivalent, including judgment on when custom development is and isn’t appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ownership of source control, environments, release management, and software development lifecycle standards.
  • Experience with business intelligence delivery, including Power BI data modeling and report governance.
  • Experience documenting and modernizing legacy applications without full replacement.

Nice To Haves

  • Background supporting operations-driven businesses such as field services, construction, distribution, or logistics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical delivery for the ACS application portfolio, including the ACS proprietary CRM, Quickbase, installer tools, customer-facing tools, and all integrations.
  • Own the release schedule, deployment process, environments, and source control.
  • Own technical testing, quality standards, and formal acceptance of all delivered work.
  • Own production support escalation, root cause analysis, and technical debt reduction.
  • Maintain the ongoing functionality of the ACS legacy system, directly and through direction of technology vendors, to maximize operational continuity.
  • Execute change control in accordance with governance owned by the Sr. Director, escalating design-impacting changes for approval.
  • Direct all development vendor capacity, including scope definition, technical specifications, and work assignment.
  • Independently size effort, validate vendor estimates, and challenge scope or pricing that isn’t supported.
  • Review code and deliverables, reject substandard work, and validate timesheets against delivered output.
  • Ensure vendor work is delivered into ACS-owned repositories, environments, and standards rather than vendor-controlled environments.
  • Reduce single-vendor dependency across all business-critical systems.
  • Bring the legacy code base into AI-assisted development environments to generate architecture documentation, data flow mapping, business logic explanation, and technical debt identification.
  • Convert undocumented institutional knowledge into written, searchable, company-owned technical documentation.
  • Use AI-assisted development to accelerate enhancement, troubleshooting, refactoring, and testing of existing applications.
  • Evaluate and recommend platform approach for new capability across custom development, low-code platforms, and configuration.
  • Build internal delivery capability so a growing share of enhancement work is performed in house rather than purchased.
  • Support planned, incremental migration of components to a modern stack with parallel operation rather than high-risk rewrite.
  • Develop and recommend application architecture, integration design, and data model approaches to the Sr. Director for approval.
  • Implement within approved architecture and escalate any decision that alters approved patterns.
  • Maintain API standards, integration patterns, and technical documentation across systems.
  • Provide feasibility, effort, risk, and technical sequencing input on every business request before commitment.
  • Plan and implement systems automation where it improves efficiency and reduces manual effort.
  • Own the reporting and analytics environment, including Power BI data models, measures, refresh schedules, and report governance.
  • Own data integrity, validation, and reconciliation between source systems.
  • Own automation platforms including Power Automate and related workflow tooling.
  • Supervise and develop the Jr. Data Analyst, retaining architecture and model ownership at the senior level.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, priority setting, and performance feedback to development partner resources.
  • Onboard, supervise, and develop internal technical staff.
  • Establish and enforce development standards for documentation, testing, code review, and release management.
  • Report delivery status, risk, and technical health to the Sr. Director on a defined cadence.
