About The Position

The Senior Manager, Manufacturing Scheduling owns the site’s production schedule from long-range master planning through finite, operational-level scheduling of discrete manufacturing activities. Serving as the central integrator between Supply Chain demand and Manufacturing capacity, this role translates the master production schedule (MPS) into an executable, constraint-based finite schedule that optimizes equipment, facility, personnel, and material utilization across upstream, downstream, formulation, and support operations. The Senior Manager leads scheduling strategy, drives schedule adherence and throughput, manages a team and/or scheduling function, and partners cross-functionally to protect on-time, in-full delivery while maintaining full cGMP compliance.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, engineering, supply chain, operations/production management, or a related field.
7+ years of manufacturing operations, master scheduling, production/materials planning, and/or project management experience within a pharmaceutical or biotech manufacturing organization, including 2+ years leading a scheduling or planning function or team.
Demonstrated experience developing and owning a master production schedule and executing finite, constraint-based scheduling in a multi-product, capacity-constrained environment.
Biologics manufacturing experience across upstream, downstream, and formulation operations.
Working knowledge of cGMP and ICH Q7A, and experience scheduling within a regulated, audit-ready manufacturing environment.
Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and advanced scheduling/planning tools, and strong data-modeling capability (e.g., advanced Excel, Gantt/scheduling software, or APS platforms).
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, excellent organizational skills, and a high level of attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CSCP) or equivalent planning/scheduling credential.
Experience with Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), rough-cut and finite capacity planning, and Theory of Constraints or Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
Experience implementing or optimizing advanced planning & scheduling (APS) or digital manufacturing/finite scheduling systems.
Familiarity with single-use biologics processing, multi-product campaign scheduling, and CDMO/CMO operations.

Responsibilities

Develop, own, and maintain the site’s Master Production Schedule (MPS), translating the Sales & Operations Plan (S&OP) and firm/forecasted client demand into a feasible, level-loaded production plan across all suites and manufacturing trains.
Establish and manage the rough-cut capacity plan (RCCP), balancing demand against finite constraints — bioreactor and downstream train availability, suite occupancy, clean/steam utilities, personnel, and long-lead materials.
Lead campaign and batch sequencing strategy, optimizing cadence, changeover, and campaign length (e.g., harvest intervals and multi-product line sequencing) to maximize throughput and minimize idle capacity.
Maintain a rolling long-range schedule (12–24+ months) and drive schedule scenario modeling to support capacity commitments, new business quoting, and executive decision-making.
Own the time-phased schedule handoff from planning to execution, ensuring alignment between MPS, MRP-driven material requirements, and shop-floor execution.
Build and maintain the finite (constraint-based) production schedule that sequences discrete unit operations — media/buffer preparation, inoculation, expansion, production bioreactor, harvest, purification, and formulation/fill — at the day, shift, and hour level.
Perform detailed finite capacity scheduling against shared and single-use equipment, cleanrooms, WFI/utilities, and qualified personnel, resolving resource contention and identifying the critical path and bottleneck operations.
Sequence and de-conflict shift-level activities to ensure performer/verifier coverage, break/relief staffing, and adequate turnaround (clean, changeover, and requalification) between lots and campaigns.
Continuously re-plan and re-sequence in response to real-time deviations — batch delays, equipment downtime, deviations/investigations, material shortages, and rush or expedited demand — and communicate revised schedules to affected stakeholders.
Integrate preventive maintenance, calibration/metrology, qualification/validation, and facility shutdown windows into the finite schedule to protect equipment readiness without compromising production.
Partner with Supply Chain to synchronize material availability, long-lead procurement, and inventory with the production schedule, and to balance facility and organizational demand across programs.
Collaborate with Manufacturing, MSAT/Process Development, Quality, Facilities & Engineering, Metrology, and QC to confirm scheduling assumptions, resource models, and testing/release timelines.
Analyze staffing required to support the production schedule and provide data-driven headcount and shift-model recommendations aligned to demand.
Define, track, and improve scheduling performance metrics — schedule adherence, asset/suite utilization, throughput, changeover time, On-Time-In-Full (OTIF), and material availability rate — and report status through Tier and S&OP forums.
Drive continuous improvement of scheduling systems, tools, and standard work (ERP/MRP, APS/finite scheduling, and electronic planning tools), leading digital transformation and automation of the scheduling process.
Acquire and maintain a clear understanding of the technologies, unit operations, and product-specific requirements utilized across the manufacturing portfolio.
Lead, mentor, and develop scheduling staff and/or serve as the site subject-matter expert for production scheduling, establishing standard work, cadence, and governance for the scheduling function.
Represent scheduling in production planning, Tier, S&OP, and client/program meetings, providing clear status, risk, and mitigation communication to operational and executive leadership.
Execute additional projects and assignments to improve manufacturing systems, and perform other tasks as assigned.
