About The Position

The Global Tax Senior Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day direct and indirect tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities across PTC Therapeutics’ U.S. and international operations, including the International Headquarters in Ireland and more than 20 international affiliates. This role coordinates global tax deliverables with internal stakeholders and outsourced service providers, supports U.S. GAAP/ASC 740 reporting and SEC disclosures, oversees U.S. and local country tax compliance, and helps identify and mitigate global tax risks (including VAT/Sales & Use Tax, transfer pricing, and evolving international reporting requirements such as OECD Pillar 2 and country-by-country reporting). The incumbent ensures adherence to relevant regulatory requirements and company SOPs as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax and/or accounting, ideally in a multinational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. tax compliance and ASC 740 tax accounting; working knowledge of international tax compliance and reporting (including IFRS/IAS tax concepts a plus).
  • Experience managing third-party tax service providers across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Understanding of VAT and/or U.S. Sales & Use Tax compliance and related risk management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (advanced Excel skills preferred); experience with major ERP systems such as SAP.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with critical attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and operate with minimal supervision.
  • Strong planning, organization, and project management capabilities.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage preparation, review, and filing of U.S. Federal, state, foreign income tax and informational returns, as well as local statutory tax returns and estimated payments for across all entities.
  • Partner with external tax advisors to deliver accurate, timely tax filings and required supporting documentation across jurisdictions.
  • Support international expansion by providing tax compliance and reporting input for the formation of new subsidiaries and entry into new jurisdictions.
  • Manage the overall preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions prepared by third-party service providers in accordance with ASC 740.
  • Assist the Head of Tax in calculating, reviewing, and booking international and U.S. tax charges quarterly and annually.
  • Prepare and/or coordinate tax disclosures for SEC reporting (tax footnotes/disclosures within Forms 10-Q and 10-K), including related support schedules.
  • Complete and review tax payable and tax account reconciliation schedules for U.S. and international entities; manage periodic reconciliations of tax general ledger accounts.
  • Oversee internal and outsourced preparation, review, and filing of VAT returns and related documentation; reconcile VAT tax accounts quarterly and proactively manage VAT risk.
  • Assist with preparation of U.S. sales and use tax returns; work cross-functionally to determine correct taxability of transactions.
  • Support vendor setup processes and manage exemption/resale documentation to ensure correct taxation treatment.
  • Support customer inquiries, including assistance with sales tax refund claims and other customer-related indirect tax issues.
  • Manage the annual transfer pricing documentation process for international subsidiaries and coordinate with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
  • Establish and maintain international tax reports required under OECD Pillar 2 and country-by-country reporting obligations, as applicable.
  • Manage tax-related requests from external auditors relating to U.S. and international tax filings and provisions.
  • Assist with tax audits and inquiries as needed.
  • Assist in the ongoing review, documentation, and maintenance of tax policies and internal controls in accordance with SOX 404.
  • Maintain fixed asset tax ledger in Oracle (or successor system) and coordinate related tax depreciation reporting.
  • Assist with annual R&D and Orphan Drug Credit calculations.
  • Support employment tax compliance matters and ensure compliant reporting.
  • Review and ensure accurate share plan-related tax filings/returns in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, Treasury, Supply Chain, and other stakeholders to assess tax implications of business activities and mitigate tax risks.
  • Support special projects and planning initiatives as assigned by the Head of Tax.
