POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Manager, Environmental Management manages Environmental Compliance programs to ensure Republic Services’ facilities remain environmentally compliant with applicable regulations. They will oversee internal and external waste profiling and approvals, third party facility approvals, and Company waste handling and acceptance standards. The Senior Manager, Environmental Management coordinates the efforts of the Waste Approvals Analysts, the Sales team, as well as the Engineering and Environmental Compliance team to only accept permitted waste that will not impact landfill operations. They must also oversee the Waste Approvals Plan; coordinate the review of generator waste profiles; communicate with field sales, environmental and operations staff; and advise customers on technical issues relating to waste disposal. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and implement environmental compliance programs designated by the Director of Environmental Compliance. Ensures that Republic Services’ facilities do not accept wastes that are defined as hazardous by Federal, State, or local regulations, outside of the scope of the site's operating permit, or pose a threat to human health or the environment. Responsible for the development and implementation of the Waste Approvals Program, and supporting procedures, including training. Develops and manages the Company’s waste acceptance program for internally generated waste. Implements process controls and training for Enhanced Asset Protection waste approvals program. Manages the Waste Approvals Analysts responsible for performing technical reviews of environmental data, including customer-initiated Generator Waste Profile Sheets. Keeps current on Federal, State, and local regulations pertaining to solid and hazardous waste. Provides support to sales and operations personnel and customers on technical and regulatory issues related to the acceptance of Special Waste. Manages the department’s digital program, which will include administering the electronic profiling and filing application, working closely with the IT group, expeditiously solving system outages, and initiating new electronic applications that will add value. Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in a solid waste, industrial, and or hazardous waste role. Experience managing customer service-oriented business or technical professionals. Knowledge of Environmental Regulations. Working knowledge of chemical compounds and strong knowledge of chemistry. Ability to analyze environmental laboratory data and compare data to Federal, State, and/or landfill solid waste permit acceptance standards. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 5 years of experience working in an engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or other related field. 2 years of leadership experience.
