About The Position

Tennant Company, a global leader in the cleaning equipment industry with over $1B in revenue and 150 years of innovation, is seeking an experienced and influential Senior Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager for North America. This role is crucial for strengthening the company's safety-first culture across its North American operations. The manager will lead strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of EHS programs, acting as a strategic partner to site leadership, field service, sales teams, and corporate EHS to ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risks, and foster employee engagement across multiple sites. The position requires a commitment to stewardship and creating a cleaner, safer, and healthier world.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preference for Environmental Health & Safety or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive EHS experience in a multi-site industrial, manufacturing, distribution, or transportation environment; 10 years of experience preferred.
  • Proven experience in operations safety, fleet safety, and distribution center (DC) safety.
  • Deep knowledge of DOT compliance, OSHA, EPA, and related EHS regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data for decision-making and performance improvement.
  • Proven ability to train, coach, and communicate safety programs effectively across diverse teams.
  • Ability to influence and achieve results through collaboration without direct authority.
  • Excellent computer and systems proficiency; strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness and ability to travel to operational and field service locations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the North America EHS strategy aligned with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure consistent application of corporate EHS programs while allowing for site-specific needs.
  • Leverage best practices and guidance from Corporate EHS to drive regional performance.
  • Track emerging regulatory requirements and develop proactive compliance strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, ANSI, and other applicable regulations.
  • Establish and manage DOT compliance programs for field service and sales organizations.
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and permit compliance reviews across sites and field operations.
  • Serve as primary regional liaison with external regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.).
  • Develop and implement fleet safety programs integrated into daily field service and sales activities.
  • Drive operational safety programs across manufacturing, distribution centers, and service locations.
  • Partner with Site Directors and Area Service Managers to embed safety into standard work.
  • Periodically assess and validate site emergency response and preparedness plans.
  • Champion incident reduction through proactive hazard identification and mitigation.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses; ensure corrective actions are tracked and closed.
  • Implement job safety analyses, pre-startup safety reviews, and learning-from-events processes.
  • Perform trend analysis using leading and lagging indicators to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and deliver safety, environmental, and leadership training programs.
  • Oversee safety training systems and learning management system (LMS) effectiveness.
  • Build and sustain a safety-first culture through influence, engagement, and leadership development.
  • Support and coach safety committees, supervisors, and frontline leaders.
  • Act as the EHS subject matter expert supporting sites, field service, sales, and corporate teams.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Lead regional participation in Corporate Collaboration Exchange initiatives.
  • Manage customer and internal requests related to EHS, sustainability, product safety, and SDSs.
  • Manage safety-related aspects of workers’ compensation programs, including claims, reporting, and return-to-work.
  • Partner with Corporate EHS to implement physical security measures protecting people, property, and information.
  • Support employee well-being through injury prevention and recovery-focused programs.
