Sr. Manager, Engineering — Web

A Place for Mom
$170,000 - $210,000

About The Position

A Place for Mom is building the next generation of intelligent, scalable platforms that connect families, providers, and advisors through AI-driven experiences. We're looking for a Sr. Engineering Manager to lead our Web engineering team, responsible for APFM.com — the primary front door where millions of families begin their senior care journey. You will lead a team of engineers, driving delivery, technical quality, and engineering culture across our consumer web surface. This is a high-visibility platform: rich in content, strong in SEO and domain authority, and central to how families discover A Place for Mom. The role combines people leadership, technical credibility, and cross-functional partnership to ship high-impact software in a fast-moving environment.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2–3 years in an engineering management role.
  • Experience leading teams building consumer-facing web products at scale, ideally on modern JavaScript/TypeScript stacks (React, Next.js, Node.js).
  • Comfort with GraphQL and API-driven architectures.
  • Strong track record of delivering reliable, high-quality, high-traffic consumer web experiences in a product-led environment.
  • Able to engage technically — review architecture proposals, give meaningful code feedback, and make sound tradeoff decisions.
  • Excellent communicator who can operate comfortably across engineers, product managers, and senior leadership.
  • Experience with agile delivery practices, sprint planning, and cross-functional roadmap execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow engineers through coaching, feedback, and structured career development.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep familiarity with SEO fundamentals, Core Web Vitals, and performance optimization at consumer scale.
  • Experience with headless CMS platforms (Sanity, Contentful, or similar) and content-driven architectures.
  • Background in high-traffic consumer web (marketplace, content-heavy, or SaaS-consumer hybrid).
  • Exposure to data and analytics tooling (PostHog, Databricks, or similar) and building data-informed products.
  • Experience partnering with AI/ML teams to bring model-powered features into consumer-facing surfaces.
  • Prior experience scaling or restructuring engineering teams through periods of growth or transition.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, grow, and retain the team of engineers building and evolving APFM.com and related web properties.
  • Own delivery for the Web platform: planning sprints, managing scope, and removing blockers to keep the team moving.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, SEO, and Content teams to translate roadmap priorities into clear, well-scoped engineering work.
  • Set and uphold engineering standards across code quality, performance, Core Web Vitals, accessibility (WCAG), testing, observability, and security.
  • Drive technical decisions in collaboration with principal and staff engineers, balancing speed with long-term maintainability.
  • Build a culture of accountability, learning, and psychological safety — running effective 1:1s, performance conversations, and career development planning.
  • Collaborate across the engineering organization on shared infrastructure, platform investments, and cross-team dependencies.
  • Contribute to hiring: sourcing, interviewing, and closing strong engineering talent.
