About The Position

The Sr. Manager, Emerging Technology is responsible for defining and leading the strategy, performance, and continuous improvement of NEEA’s product management function to advance long-term market transformation outcomes in the Northwest. This role establishes the vision, goals, and operating framework for how emerging technologies are identified, developed, and progressed through the product lifecycle, ensuring alignment with product group strategies, program objectives, and organizational priorities. The Sr. Manager leads and develops a team of product management professionals, oversees resource allocation and budget execution, and plays a central role in fostering collaboration across internal teams and external partners to enable effective, coordinated advancement of product pathways. Success in this role requires strong leadership and organizational judgment, the ability to set direction and align resources across complex priorities, and the ability to translate strategic goals into sustained performance through teams operating in dynamic and evolving market environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, economics, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in product management, market transformation, energy efficiency, or related areas, including demonstrated people leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience defining and leading multi‑year strategies or functions that integrate technical, market, and program considerations to achieve organizational outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of energy‑using technologies, markets, and product development processes, including how performance, cost, and market dynamics influence adoption and transformation.
  • Ability to establish direction for product management strategy, processes, and operating frameworks that guide work from technology identification through market adoption.
  • Ability to align resources, priorities, and capabilities across teams to support delivery of strategic objectives and portfolio outcomes.
  • Ability to exercise organizational judgment in balancing competing priorities, risks, and opportunities across programs, products, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and manage professional staff, including setting expectations, providing coaching, and ensuring accountability for performance and results.
  • Ability to cultivate, maintain, and leverage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including funders, manufacturers, industry organizations, and regional and national partners.
  • Ability to communicate strategy, priorities, risks, and outcomes clearly to senior leadership, teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with standard tools and systems used for planning, analysis, budgeting, and performance management.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training that would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the successful performance of the essential job duties will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the strategy, priorities, and performance of the Emerging Technology and Product Management function to support NEEA’s long‑term market transformation objectives.
  • Establish and maintain the operating framework, processes, and standards for product management from technology identification through market adoption, ensuring consistent, high‑quality execution across product areas.
  • Set direction for how resources, capabilities, and initiatives are aligned to support product strategy development, validation, and portfolio outcomes.
  • Lead and develop a team of product management professionals, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and capability development to ensure sustained organizational effectiveness.
  • Oversee and direct the planning, execution, and performance of the Emerging Technology portfolio, including budget management, resource allocation, and delivery of business outcomes.
  • Guide cross‑functional alignment among product management, program management, and market strategy teams to ensure integrated planning, coordinated execution, and effective use of organizational resources.
  • Represent NEEA’s Emerging Technology and Product Management interests in regional and national forums to influence collaboration, partnerships, and approaches to advancing the energy efficiency pipeline.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with external stakeholders, including funders, industry organizations, and partners, to support alignment, information exchange, and long‑term impact.
  • Monitor and assess emerging market, technology, and organizational trends and adjust functional strategy to address evolving opportunities and risks.
  • Ensure clear communication of strategy, priorities, performance, and outcomes to senior leadership, stakeholders, and funders.
  • Perform other duties which may be necessary or desirable to support the organization’s success.
  • As a first-line supervisor, responsibilities include hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
