About The Position

ExoTerra is a world leader in solar electric propulsion systems and space. The company develops Hall Thrusters, and propulsion modules. The company is growing rapidly and has been awarded a number of propulsion module contracts. ExoTerra is seeking a full-time Design and Analysis Integration Sr. Manager. This person will oversee the Design and Analysis Team. This role reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The role will establish and refine product development lifecycle design and analyses processes across the organization, drive technical consistency, and mentor and train engineers. The role requires a deep knowledge of spacecraft design and analysis practices for commercial as well as space and defense customers supporting design, analysis, and testing related to Hall-effect Thrusters, xenon and krypton, and other emerging propellant flow control systems, and electronic power systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 10+ years of industry leadership experience (pay commensurate with experience)
  • Extensive experience with design and analysis teams performing and using CAD, Digital Twin Tools, and NASTRAN/FEMAP analysis software
  • Strong knowledge of spacecraft design, thermal, and structural analysis
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Engaged learner

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Nice To Haves

  • Robust experience with full lifecycle spacecraft DDT&E with emphasis on electric propulsion systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design team in the design, development, test & evaluation, product verification and validation, and on-orbit sustaining engineering goals that meet multiple customer requirements integrating several diverse Electric Propulsion designs throughout various stages of product line maturity. This includes everything from space flown hardware requiring troubleshooting to conceptual designs of a varied portfolio of electric propulsion line replaceable units (LRU) and complete propulsion systems.
  • Oversee the team establishing and refining analysis processes across the Analysis Team
  • Coordinate across engineering teams to promote efficiency and process alignment
  • Coordinate cooperation with the Production Team and Integrated Product Team (IPT) leads.
  • Oversee and coordinate training and mentoring of analysis engineers in implementation of analysis processes
  • Oversee, coordinate and review analysis methods, results, and documentation to ensure technical consistency by the team.
  • Oversee and plan performance of stress analyses (modal, quasi-static, random vibration, fatigue, tubing), in accordance with industry standards, of systems ranging from components to entire spacecraft, in order to support design development, verify customer requirements, and ensure functionality in applicable flight environments
  • Ensure and plan stress analysis support for multiple programs simultaneously in various stages of product lifecycle development.
  • Understand, refine and planning of customer-specified requirements, interface with customers, present analysis results to customers in design reviews, and prepare reports of analysis results for delivery to customers as part of the technical leadership team.
  • Oversee and coordinate resources to support dynamic testing (random vibration, shock) of components and propulsion systems
  • Oversee the correlation of stress models to test data
  • Coordinate direct reports who support signoff of flight hardware for delivery to customers
