Sr. Manager, Business Unit Risk

As a Sr. Manager, Business Unit Risk, you will play a critical role in strengthening the Bank's First Line of Defense risk and compliance framework by leading compliance testing, monitoring, and regulatory oversight activities across lending and banking products. This role is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls, identifying potential regulatory risks, and partnering with business leaders to implement sustainable solutions that align with applicable banking regulations and Schwab policies. You will collaborate across business, risk, compliance, audit, and third-party vendor teams to support a strong culture of risk management, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of banking compliance experience supporting mortgage, deposit products, and/or business purpose lending.
- Experience interpreting and applying banking regulations including (but not limited to) RESPA, TILA, FDPA, FCRA, EFTA, HMDA, and ECOA.
- Experience developing, executing, and enhancing First Line of Defense compliance testing and monitoring programs.
- Strong understanding of the banking regulatory environment and lending compliance requirements.
- Experience working effectively within a Three Lines of Defense risk management framework.
- Advanced analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong relationship management skills with the ability to influence across a matrixed organization.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead the execution and enhancement of the Bank's First Line of Defense Compliance Testing and Monitoring Program.
- Assess the effectiveness of internal controls supporting regulatory compliance for banking and lending products.
- Oversee monitoring and testing activities related to business purpose lending origination and servicing processes.
- Analyze lending data and support regulatory reporting readiness, including Dodd-Frank Section 1071 Small Business Lending requirements.
- Ensure testing activities align with Corporate Compliance Testing Standards and Bank Compliance Testing & Monitoring Procedures.
- Partner with business leaders, risk partners, and third-party vendors to evaluate compliance controls and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor remediation activities and ensure corrective action plans are implemented effectively and in a timely manner.
- Prepare executive-level reporting and present findings, trends, risks, and recommendations to management.
- Support regulatory examinations, internal audits, and compliance reviews by coordinating information requests and responses.
- Maintain a strong understanding of applicable banking regulations, CFPB examination procedures, and FFIEC compliance requirements.
- Drive risk awareness and accountability through collaboration, consultation, and ongoing governance activities.
