This position works out of our Irving, TX location in our Transfusion Medicine (TM) division. Abbott Transfusion Medicine is a global leader of invitro diagnostics and offers a broad range of innovative instrument systems and tests for hospitals, reference labs, blood banks and clinics. Our products offer automation, convenience, cost-effectiveness, and flexibility. Responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of the quality system while overseeing and managing one or more departments within the functional area. Provides leadership, guidance, and directions to staff to ensure organizational goals are achieved. Sets the technical service strategy for assigned product families and translates that strategy into actionable plans. Partners with Global Directors , Managers and Leads to develop and execute country‑level service and support strategies for designated product platforms. Establishes clear objectives and ensures projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership Provide strategic direction for global service and support operations, technical escalation management, and training initiatives.
  • Partner with area and regional directors , managers and leads to develop strategic alternatives and communicate clear direction across the department.
  • Ensure that all service activities and projects support long‑term quality, operational effectiveness, and business strategies.
  • Hold Area Leadership Directors accountable for meeting mandatory service actions and performance expectations.
  • Operational Management Lead high‑impact and strategically important projects, assigning project leadership appropriately and mentoring peers and direct reports in project execution.
  • Oversee global escalation processes, conduct international escalation site visits, and publish lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
  • Make timely decisions that balance quality, cost, and schedule considerations.
  • Monitor performance across service areas and establish plans to improve technical proficiency and service outcomes.
  • Product & Process Readiness Oversee planning, execution, and support for product launches in partnership with Technical, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure smooth deployment.
  • Translate customer needs into product and process requirements; review designs and processes to ensure quality and prevent defects.
  • Identify and advocate for necessary product, process, capital, and facility improvements.
  • Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving Lead teams in analyzing data to identify root causes of technical issues and develop corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop short‑term solutions to urgent issues and oversee policy or process changes to prevent recurrence.
  • Resolve ambiguity in novel situations by applying innovative problem-solving and building organizational adaptability.
  • Resource & Scheduling Management Manage team schedules to ensure appropriate coverage, balanced workloads, and alignment with operational priorities.
  • Coordinate resources across multiple teams and negotiate additional staffing or support when needed.
  • Financial & Budget Accountability Develop financial plans and manage budgets for the area of responsibility.
  • Lead budget planning and justification for retrofits, consolidating needs, planning contingencies, and negotiating resources.
  • Ensure achievement of financial results and project milestones.
  • People Leadership Manage staffing levels, performance goals, and succession planning for the team.
  • Provide coaching, development, and mentoring to direct reports to build capability, strengthen performance, and support long‑term career growth.
  • Coach new managers in global escalation processes and service leadership expectations.
  • Foster a high‑performing, collaborative team culture focused on continuous learning and accountability.
