About The Position

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is adding a Sr Maintenance and Operations Technician to our Aquatics Repair team! Under direction of the Aquatics Maintenance Manager, this full-time position will perform plumbing maintenance at our indoor and outdoor pools and spray grounds throughout Mecklenburg County. This includes renovation projects and new installations. In addition, the selected candidate will perform installation of and repairs on decorative fountains within our parks. The incumbent will be a key member of our team in ensuring our aquatic facilities and park amenities remain premier venues for our community and visitors. This position will typically work daytime hours, Monday-Friday, but may be required to work evenings and weekends based upon business/facility needs. Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience related to area of assignment
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges; Depending on the area of assignment, may require a Class A or B CDL with one or more of the following endorsements, H(Hazardous Materials), N(Tank Vehicle), P (Passenger Transport), S (School Bus/Passenger Transport), T (Double/Triples), or X (Tanker and hazardous Materials)
  • General knowledge of applicable computer programs
  • Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
  • Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
  • Safe work practices and hazards associated with work
  • Use of the tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in the maintenance activities
  • Filling out daily work sheets and other required forms
  • Light trucks, small tractors, mowers and similar automotive equipment
  • Adaptability: Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements or cultures
  • Collaboration: Working effectively and cooperatively with others; establishing and maintaining good working relationships

  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance services to aquatic facilities
  • Assist in installation and repair of decorative fountains
  • Assist in manual labor such as pipe laying, painting, carpentry and other construction tasks
  • Assist with trenching to install new water or waste lines
  • Operate power mowers, chainsaws, brush cutter, edger and clippers, power washers, ATVs, litter vacuum, and other equipment used in facility maintenance, landscaping, roadside maintenance, and right of way cleaning.
  • Operate heavy equipment and dump trucks
  • Assist repair technicians in duties
  • May operate light equipment such as utility vehicles, tractors, mowers and dump trucks
  • May serve as a lead on a small work crew, community service workers, volunteers and/or part-timers
  • May receive, sort, and package materials
