About The Position

Under the general supervision of a Maintenance Supervisor, this role is responsible for installing, modifying, troubleshooting, repairing, adjusting, calibrating, testing, operating, and maintaining various hospital systems. These systems include chilled water, steam, condensate, domestic and heating water, medical gas, fire protection, computerized tube and DI water systems, the hospital’s medical infectious waste incinerators, and mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, fans, air handling units, variable frequency drives, and air compressors. The role also involves changing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes as directed, and overseeing and training Maintenance Mechanics and Maintenance Helpers. Welding and fabricating metal components may also be required if trained. The position involves performing routine predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment and systems across hospital, administrative, and research lab locations, including installation, startup, and rebuilding of equipment. Responding to unscheduled equipment failures and performing emergency shutdown/start-up procedures are critical. The role requires working independently or collaboratively with other mechanics, crafts, and contractors in a fast-paced environment. It involves using hand and power tools for fabrication, repair, and troubleshooting, interpreting schematics and manuals, and operating specific hospital systems like the medical infectious waste incinerator and water purification systems. Minor locksmithing duties may also be assigned. Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with staff and adhering to safety policies are essential. More complex duties include tearing down and rebuilding pumps, compressors, and vacuum systems; replacing and testing circuit boards for variable frequency drives; repairing electrical control circuits; replacing electrical components; performing advanced welding (TIG, MIG, Stick); conducting predictive maintenance (infrared scans, ultrasonic testing, laser alignment); and assisting with maintenance on autoclaves and process equipment. The role also involves interpreting work requests, determining material needs, complying with regulatory codes, drawing sketches for clarity, providing project schedules and cost estimates, and serving as a knowledge resource for less experienced personnel. Maintaining regular attendance is also required.
