About The Position

The Sr. Machine Learning Engineer will play a lead technical role in conceptualizing, designing, and evaluating next-generation planning and guidance software for Intuitive’s Ion™ endoluminal robotic platform for minimally invasive peripheral lung biopsy. The role develops advanced algorithms to analyze chest medical images and support improved early diagnosis of lung cancer and clinical outcomes. Work focuses on processing and fusing CT, CBCT, and X-ray images for lung structure segmentation, system navigation, and target localization. The engineer drives medical imaging analysis software from research and development concepts through robust commercial medical device products. The position designs and implements algorithms for lung structure segmentation, registration, target localization, respiratory anomaly detection, and bronchial analysis; adapts modern machine learning architectures to clinical datasets; and deploys optimized models in high-performance C++ production environments. The role also supports system integration and testing and contributes to formal design documentation and patent applications.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on industrial experience in algorithm development, with specialization in medical imaging and computer vision.
  • Exceptional proficiency in Python and C++, with a deep understanding of modern software component design for production environments.
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks and software toolkits including PyTorch, OpenCV, MONAI, ITK, and VTK.
  • Experience with model optimization tools such as TensorRT or ONNX.
  • Experience or knowledge of developing AI/ML features in alignment with Good Machine Learning Practice (GMLP), including data representativeness and model transparency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with clinical and engineering teams.
