About The Position

Tyler Technologies is looking for a Sr. Lead Software Engineer to partner with team leadership to define short- and long-term technical goals and execution plans. This role involves providing technical input for strategic decisions, participating in cross-organizational panels, and producing high-level technical analysis and end-to-end designs for complex problems. The engineer will create clear design specifications, gather and validate requirements with stakeholders, and translate them into actionable technical plans. Responsibilities include researching and designing required infrastructure, leading infrastructure and architectural engineering efforts, building reference implementations, and writing detailed program specifications. The role ensures planned work includes quality expectations, testing accommodations, and thorough analysis. The engineer will drive challenging technical efforts, coordinate work across engineers, monitor progress, and provide status updates. They will also guide integrations with external systems, mentor Lead and Senior Engineers, lead performance analysis and optimization, validate scaling plans, assess emerging tools, establish technical quality standards, and identify/mitigate risks. This position offers the opportunity to provide sophisticated solutions to difficult problems and raise the technical bar for the team. The role may telecommute from any location in the United States.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Computer Information Systems
  • 4 years of experience in Micro-service architecture
  • 4 years of experience in AWS Services (Aurora RDS with PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, S3, SNS, SQS, Lambdas, API Gateway, and EventBridge)
  • 4 years of experience in .NET / C#
  • 4 years of experience in TypeScript
  • 4 years of experience in HTML
  • 4 years of experience in CSS
  • 4 years of experience in REST APIs
  • 4 years of experience in Authentication patterns (OIDC and OAuth2)
  • 4 years of experience in SQL
  • 4 years of experience in Git

Responsibilities

  • Partner with team leadership to define short- and long-term technical goals and execution plans.
  • Provide technical input for strategic decisions, acting as a trusted technical advisor.
  • Participate effectively in cross-organizational panels and boards, contributing to a common solution that ensures divisional and team requirements are met.
  • Produce high-level technical analysis and end-to-end designs that solve complex problems and result in well-integrated application systems.
  • Create clear design specifications for proposed changes and participate in architectural reviews to align solutions across teams.
  • Gather, clarify, and validate requirements with internal and external stakeholders for complex initiatives.
  • Translate requirements into actionable technical plans that teams can execute with confidence.
  • Research and design required infrastructure for projects, including cost estimates and required Terraform modules.
  • Lead and actively participate in the team’s infrastructure and architectural engineering responsibilities, driving key design decisions and technical direction.
  • Build reference implementations for complex approaches and reusable patterns that others can extend safely and consistently.
  • Write clear, detailed program specifications that allow junior engineers to implement the solution with minimal additional guidance.
  • Ensure all planned work includes clear quality expectations, appropriate testing accommodations, and thorough integration/impact analysis, ensuring deliverables are high-quality and all downstream effects are identified and addressed.
  • Drive the most challenging technical efforts by coordinating work across engineers, setting schedules, monitoring progress, and providing status updates to leadership.
  • Ensure solutions to complex initiatives are high quality, adequately tested, and delivered in a maintainable, supportable way.
  • Guide and review integrations with external systems, third-party services, and advanced technology platforms to ensure reliability and correctness.
  • Mentor Lead and Senior Engineers by strengthening their technical depth and strategic thinking, with an emphasis on organizational impact and scalable decision-making.
  • Lead performance analysis and optimization when bottlenecks are identified.
  • Validate scaling plans and ensure systems are designed to meet growth and reliability needs.
  • Assess emerging tools, frameworks, and practices for fit and readiness, and recommend adoption where beneficial.
  • Establish technical quality standards, validate adherence through periodic reviews, and serve as the final technical authority for complex design and implementation decisions.
  • Identify and mitigate key risks such as architectural debt, security vulnerabilities, and scalability constraints.
  • Provide sophisticated solutions to the hardest problems—especially those others cannot resolve—while raising the technical bar for the team.
