About The Position

As a Senior Lead Data Engineer, you will lead complex project work within cross-functional teams supporting Supply Chain. You will design, implement, maintain, and optimize analytics infrastructure for technically complex projects, developing solutions for data modeling and analytics technology needs. The role requires general understanding of Supply Chain operations and the ability to quickly develop mastery of relevant subject areas. Senior Lead Data Engineers have wide latitude in making project decisions and serve as technical anchors for one or more product areas or platform capabilities. They apply advanced knowledge, provide technical leadership and consultation to peer engineers, and establish design patterns, modeling standards, and testing frameworks that keep data products consistent, scalable, and aligned with enterprise standards. They may serve as subject-matter experts in data and analytics technology, represent SCDA in external conversations, assist with selecting or overseeing outside vendor partners, and influence project execution by IT and analyst teams. The role calls for strong analytical and data modeling skills, deep understanding of database technology and analytics-platform data use, and strong SQL and Python programming skills. The successful candidate is fluent in both IT technology and Supply Chain analyst terminology, experienced in developing and implementing data models for analytics, and proficient in cloud database architecture. They use sound judgment to address ambiguous, multi-source data problems while balancing performance, cost, and maintainability, and work closely with cross-functional partners to create impact. Chick-fil-A’s Flexible Futures Model combines in-person and virtual work, with a current minimum of 8–10 in-person days per month. The position requires 10% travel. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Requirements

At least 5 years of experience; 10 years of experience is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Decision Sciences, Engineering, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a similar field.
Strong analytical and data-modeling skills.
Deep understanding of cloud database technology and analytic-platform data use.
Strong programming skills in SQL and Python.
Experience developing and implementing data models for analytic use.
Moderate experience with cloud database architecture.
Ability to partner with cross-functional teams using strong written and verbal communication.
Fast learner and proven problem solver.
Strong systems-thinking and process-design skills, especially for scalability and automation.
Attention to detail and thoughtful investigation of data.

Nice To Haves

Some experience using the AWS big data technology stack.
Extensive experience with Databricks, dbt, Snowflake, or similar distributed platforms.
Extensive experience with Tableau or similar data-visualization tools.
Some experience implementing data-governance principles.
Experience defining engineering standards or design patterns, or leading design reviews for peer engineers within a product area or discipline.
Master’s degree in MIS, Decision Sciences, Engineering, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a similar field.

Responsibilities

Align Supply Chain stakeholders and IT to translate business logic into scalable data and analytics solutions for complex projects.
Develop ETL pipelines for Supply Chain use and establish repeatable, scalable ETL patterns for others to leverage.
Develop tool, data, and analytics best practices for SCDA and advise on integrating them into operational practices.
Design tool implementations, accounting for Databricks, dbt, and cloud-compute performance requirements and expectations.
Help design patterns for efficient use of cloud-compute resources.
Drive architecture decisions and establish the technical approach for the product area, balancing performance, cost, and maintainability for ambiguous, multi-source data problems.
Define design patterns, modeling standards, and testing frameworks for the product area, and lead design reviews to guide engineering work across the team.
Provide technical direction and mentorship to peer engineers, building capability across the product area without managerial oversight.
Own and be accountable for data-model and code quality and relevant documentation.
Act as a technical anchor for one or more product areas or platform capabilities, with ownership of the end-to-end capability.
Implement data-governance and master-data-management principles in project execution.
Serve as a subject-matter expert and resource on data and analytics technology issues for the larger SCDA community.
Drive complex projects to success and enable others to own the impact.
Manage maintenance and quality control for data pipelines or data products built by the role that are actively in use.
