About The Position

Rose Medical is seeking an experienced Senior Laser Engineer to join their Engineering team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This role involves hands-on development of processes, solving technical problems, experimenting with new technology, designing tooling, working with equipment, and transforming ideas into robust manufacturing processes. The engineer will focus on developing and optimizing laser welding, cutting, marking, and ablation processes for highly precise medical-device components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5–10 years of progressively responsible laser-processing and/or precision-manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in medical device or another highly regulated industry is especially valuable.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy and materials such as stainless steel, nitinol, titanium, and platinum.
  • Knowledge of optical systems.
  • Knowledge of laser safety.
  • Knowledge of CAD.
  • Knowledge of machining.
  • Knowledge of electronics.
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading.
  • Knowledge of thermoplastics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop laser processes from feasibility and prototype development through scale-up, validation, and production.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and processes, lead root-cause investigations, and improve uptime, yield, and process capability.
  • Use DOE, SPC, and structured experimentation to establish reliable, repeatable process windows.
  • Develop tooling and fixtures, create motion paths, and work with G-code and machine-specific programming.
  • Evaluate new lasers, equipment, suppliers, automation opportunities, and emerging technologies.
  • Work directly with customers on feasibility studies, technical reviews, quotations, product launches, and design-for-manufacturability conversations.
  • Partner with Quality, Manufacturing, R&D, Sales, and Operations to move processes from an idea to validated, scalable manufacturing.
