About The Position

Under direction, plans, schedules, and supervises the work of crews (grounds maintenance and/or trees as assigned) engaged in tree, pest, and landscape maintenance. Maintains established standards, resolves landscape‑related problems, and performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college with an associate degree including major coursework in horticulture, arboriculture, or related fields. Considerable supervisory experience in tree or grounds maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that produces the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • ISA Certified Arborist credential.
  • Qualified Pesticide Applicators License
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions related to tree and grounds maintenance.
  • Computer systems and applicable software programs.
  • Safety hazards and precautionary practices associated with assigned responsibilities.
  • Field maintenance requirements of assigned equipment.
  • Plan and supervise the work of maintenance personnel in a manner that promotes performance, safety, and high morale.
  • Understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Understand and relate to the needs of senior citizens.
  • Deal effectively with the public in both routine and challenging situations.
  • Exhibits strong written and verbal communication skills appropriate for diverse audiences and situations.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, assigns, and supervises the work of tree, pest control, and grounds crews including tree trimmers, technicians, gardeners, irrigators, sprayers, equipment operators, and grounds workers.
  • Works with the crew foreman to establish daily work schedules, review maintenance needs, and inspect work both in progress and upon completion.
  • Makes field decisions regarding tree removals, replacements, pruning, and similar matters. Prepares reports for management review.
  • Maintains personnel and attendance records for crew members. Participates in training and safety programs.
  • Provides ongoing feedback to employees throughout the review period. Contributes to performance evaluations with feedback that is timely, specific, honest, and aimed at supporting employee growth.
  • Evaluates personnel performance and follows up on all service requests; assigns personnel to resolve issues.
  • Communicates with residents by telephone and in person; documents actions taken on each request.
  • Drives a vehicle to meetings, workshops, job sites, and other work‑related responsibilities.
  • Regular attendance is required. All duties are performed on‑site for the Community.
  • Works effectively with coworkers, residents, and others by sharing ideas constructively; listening and considering suggestions objectively; keeping commitments; communicating progress and issues; addressing problems to find practical solutions; addressing others respectfully; and supporting a diverse workplace.
