About The Position

Silicon Labs in Austin, Texas is seeking a motivated Sr. Kubernetes Platform Engineer to help define, build, operate, and lifecycle-manage the infrastructure, tools, and platforms required for our organization to operate at scale. This role spans both on-premises and cloud environments, with responsibilities across Kubernetes platforms, CI/CD, identity, observability, cost management, and developer enablement. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience owning CNCF and open-source infrastructure in production, including upgrades, troubleshooting, automation, and long-term maintainability. This is an engineering ownership role, not a support-escalation role; success requires the ability to understand, operate, and improve the platforms we depend on while collaborating closely with software and IT teams and supporting AI/ML initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent training.
• 5+ years in software development, DevOps, Kubernetes and Cloud-Native Platforms engineering, or a related field.
• Experience managing infrastructure lifecycle across on-premises data centers and public cloud, including provisioning, upgrades, patching, scaling, decommissioning, and operational automation.
• Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, etc.; AWS certifications are a plus.
• Proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, Salt, Chef, or similar infrastructure automation tools.
• Proficiency in at least one language, preferably Go, Python, Groovy, or Java.
• Proficiency in Linux, Windows, and macOS system administration; Talos Linux experience is a plus.
• Nix shell and PowerShell scripting experience.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and ecosystem technologies such as Talos Linux, Cilium, Gateway API, CSI, KubeVirt, Kyverno, Helm, and Kustomize.
• Experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD, Artifactory, and GitOps-based deployment workflows.
• Experience with Vault, External Secrets Operator, OIDC, Keycloak, Okta, workload identity, and secrets lifecycle management.
• Experience operating observability stacks using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Mimir, Tempo, and OpenTelemetry.
• Experience with cloud and Kubernetes cost visibility, optimization, and tools such as OpenCost.
• Demonstrated ability to operate, troubleshoot, upgrade, and maintain open-source infrastructure platforms in production.
• Firewalls, ACLs, and core networking concepts including switching, routing, DNS, ingress, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with AI and ML frameworks and tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.
• CNCF Kubernetes certifications such as CKA, CKAD, or CKS are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Building productive relationships and generously sharing expertise via presentations and training sessions.
• Creating and maintaining effective documentation and written communications.
• Enhancing team productivity by identifying opportunities to automate and eliminate waste in new and existing processes.
• Designing, building, operating, upgrading, and retiring infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments, with attention to reliability, security, cost, maintainability, and developer productivity.
• Operating and evolving Kubernetes-based platforms and supporting technologies, including cluster lifecycle, networking, ingress, storage, policy, virtualization, secrets, identity, observability, and cost visibility.
• Owning and maintaining CNCF and open-source platforms in production, including troubleshooting, upgrades, automation, documentation, and internal enablement. Candidates should be comfortable operating systems where internal expertise is required rather than relying primarily on vendor support.
• Improving software developer experience and productivity by reducing friction and automating testing and deployments.
• Designing, developing, and maintaining CI/CD and GitOps pipelines for software and infrastructure.
• Supporting secure platform operations through policy enforcement, secrets management, workload identity, OIDC integrations, and automated governance.
• Building and operating observability platforms for metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting, and service health using modern cloud-native tooling.
• Working with software teams to support development and implementation of AI/ML infrastructure and services.
• Reducing waste and cutting costs in cloud and Kubernetes infrastructure.
