As a Senior Java Backend Developer in the Workforce Benefits Division, you will contribute to the development of backend services, APIs, and microservices for the digital infrastructure. The role requires a deep understanding of Java, knowledge of the insurance domain, and proficiency in tools like Kraken, OpenL, and Flowable. Responsibilities include designing robust backend solutions, optimizing processes, and supporting a configuration-driven environment to enhance the administration system's functionality, performance, and scalability. A strong foundation in microservices and API development is crucial for building reliable, secure integrations and ensuring system interoperability across multiple platforms. This position is located in Newport Beach, CA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6+ years in Java-focused backend development, with strong knowledge of API and RESTful services.
  • Proficient in Git for version control.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Kraken, OpenL, and Flowable is preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the design, development, and optimization of Java-based backend services within the insurance platform, supporting our configuration-focused environment.
  • Collaborate with frontend developers, UX/UI designers, and business stakeholders to ensure seamless integration across all systems.
  • Provide mentorship to junior developers, instilling best practices for secure, scalable applications.
  • Design and implement microservices and RESTful APIs to support secure, efficient integrations.
  • Monitor and address performance bottlenecks, ensuring optimal system response times and scalability.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and drive continuous improvements in backend development processes.
  • Build and enhance services related to member enrollment, policy administration, plan configuration, and product rules within a group benefits context.
  • Implement functionality supporting policy issuance, endorsements, renewals, terminations, and reinstatements.
  • Work with configurable platforms to interpret and apply benefit rules, premium calculations, and eligibility validations.
  • Contribute to backend readiness for billing schedules, invoice generation, and downstream claim enablement based on policy and product configuration.
  • Align development with the unique requirements of group insurance products, including multi-coverage, multi-tier, and employer-level constructs.
