About The Position

Perform work defining, assessing and structuring the direction of technology in terms of its processes and capabilities to meet system requirements. This lead position is responsible for planning and integration of new technologies ensuring that the technological solutions in support of business goals, requirements, capabilities and objectives are translated into detailed system architectural designs through use of process flow diagrams, future-state operational changes and technical solutions models. The Sr Information Architect will define and govern the structure, classification, and lifecycle of enterprise information assets to ensure they are discoverable, usable, and trusted. This position will support the organization’s ability to leverage data for advanced analytics, reporting, and decision-making and partner with business and technical teams to align information architecture with enterprise data strategy and governance objectives.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of architecture experience including enterprise, domain, or solution architecture
  • Experience establishing or supporting data governance programs, including data standards, stewardship, and policy development
  • Familiarity with metadata management, data cataloging, and data lineage concepts (e.g., tools such as Microsoft Purview or similar platforms)
  • Experience preparing and structuring data to support advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning initiatives
  • Exposure to emerging AI capabilities, including Microsoft Copilot or similar agent-based technologies, as well as familiarity with AI integration patterns such as agent-based architectures and Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar frameworks that enable secure and scalable interaction between AI systems and enterprise data
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Power Platform, including SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate, with an understanding of how these platforms support information architecture, metadata management, content organization, governance, workflow automation, and data readiness.
  • Experience applying enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, including familiarity with the Architecture Development Method (ADM)
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture principles, including business, application, data, and technology domains
  • Experience developing and maintaining enterprise architecture artifacts such as capability models, roadmaps, and architectural diagrams
  • Demonstrated ability to align technology solutions with business strategy and operational objectives
  • Experience working within governance frameworks, including architecture review boards, standards development, and policy enforcement
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure) and modern architecture patterns

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and select from existing and emerging technologies to best fit business and project needs
  • Determine physical system design and asses existing technology and standards to fit within information standards and logical systems design
  • Build a trusted advisor relationship with business leaders to provide coaching and guidance on system architectural and design solution options based on understanding of industry trends and customer expectations
  • Serve as an integral member of the team that helps develop a consolidated business and technology roadmap to help ensure that resources, interdependencies and business priorities are effectively aligned
  • Translate complex topics, concepts and business opportunities into possible system architectural and design solution options that will help Mecklenburg County take advantage of market opportunities or overcome business challenges
  • Develop and maintain standard enterprise architecture artifacts, including business capability models, logical architectures, and physical solution designs, ensuring consistency and quality across initiatives
  • Determine overall modeling standards, guidelines, best practices and approved modeling techniques and approaches
  • Lead and participate in evaluation and due diligence efforts for new technologies and software solutions, including review of architecture, integration capabilities, and data models
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise governance and policy requirements
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise data, security, and governance policies, supporting regulatory compliance and responsible use of data
  • Establish data governance practices, including standards for data quality, metadata management, and data stewardship
  • Develop and maintain enterprise metadata strategies and repositories to support transparency, lineage, and compliance
  • Ensure data is structured and managed to enable emerging capabilities such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and agent-based technologies (e.g., Microsoft Copilot)
