About The Position

A Sr Instrument Engineer provides daily support to assigned complex operation line team, which includes leading control and instrument activities in the complex, ensuring hardware and software platforms are operating without fault at high reliability levels, supporting operations during troubleshooting, upset or emergencies, improving instruments and controls in the area, supporting projects, preparing and executing EMOC work. Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher level degree in Engineering required.
  • 5 years of experience in all phases of instrument/electrical systems design and installation required.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Texas City Refinery, required.
  • All successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). It is Valero’s policy that employees must wear this card at all times while working at the refinery.

  • Bachelor's or higher level degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Creates or revises loop, field junction box, marshalling and process instrument drawings.
  • Provides orifice calculations/specifications, valve sizing/specifications, and miscellaneous instrument specifications for Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering.
  • Maintains Honeywell and Foxboro DCS, which include revising graphics, group displays, alarms, tuning, and DCS hardware.
  • Maintains information for Dataloggers and instrument files/index.
  • Prepares and writes requisitions for projects (Maintenance, Reliability, Operations, and Engineering).
  • Troubleshoots instrument problems for Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering.
  • Checks P&ID’s for correct instrumentation and conformance to Valero standards for changes management and project work.
  • Attends project review meeting for reviewing process and instrument diagrams (P&ID’s).
  • Plans and supervises the work of instrumentation engineering and construction contractors.
  • Designs, implements, and maintains Safety Instrumental Systems.
  • Evaluates and implements new instrument technologies.
  • Develops five-year plan for instrument upgrade projects.
  • Provides training and develops training plans for I&E Technicians.
