About The Position

The Home Depot's Learning Design & Development team is seeking a Sr. Instructional Designer to create simple, relevant, and effective learning experiences for associates, particularly within the Supply Chain. This role involves designing, developing, and implementing cutting-edge development programs to build competence and confidence. The ideal candidate is passionate about development, has advanced experience applying instructional design and adult learning principles to create various learning deliverables (courses, assessments, job aids), and a track record of innovative approaches. The position requires experience managing multiple complex projects, working through all phases of the course creation lifecycle (analysis, design, development), and familiarity with Agile Learning Development or the Successive Approximation Model (SAM). The Sr. Instructional Designer will be self-driven, collaborative, resourceful, excellent at project management, and capable of coaching and mentoring other Instructional Designers. They should be comfortable taking risks, prioritizing work, communicating new ideas to diverse audiences, acting as a trusted consultant, and advancing current thinking on development. Excellent communication skills, including through technology like WebEx and Microsoft Teams, are essential.

Requirements

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of an associate's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
  • 4 years of work experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theories.
  • Proficiency with software including Microsoft Office and standard eLearning development tools.
  • Proficient knowledge of project management principles and MS Project.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, HR Development, Organizational Development, I/O Psychology, or related field (or equivalent Home Depot experience).
  • Experience in education or learning field, or similar work experience.
  • Experience with Agile Learning Development or the Successive Approximation Model (SAM).
  • Experience creating training deliverables for retail organizations.
  • Experience conducting learning needs analysis and developing curriculum maps.
  • Advanced knowledge of eLearning development tools and software (i.e., Articulate Storyline/Rise, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Advanced ability to communicate professionally, provide proper context, and tailor messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to work independently (e.g., project revisions, solving issues as they arise).
  • Ability to be detail-oriented in the development and QA of project work for themselves and others.

Responsibilities

  • Create learning objectives, design documents, storyboards, and other learning design deliverables.
  • Develop learning solutions using project-based templates.
  • Test and debug deliverables for quality assurance.
  • Ensure learning solutions align with desired outcomes.
  • Coach and mentor Associate Instructional Designers and Instructional Designers, including assisting with onboarding new Instructional Designers.
  • Lead and facilitate Instructional Designer development on current and emerging learning methods.
  • Partner with Learning Strategy Senior Managers on confirming needs analysis and instructional strategy.
  • Project manage individual and team deliverables and proactively communicate milestones.
  • Proactively communicate task and project status to client group and management.
  • Assist in the interviewing, selection, and onboarding of contractors and associates.
