About The Position

We are looking for a Bilingual Sr. Group Medical Underwriter who will play a key role in assessing risk, ensuring sound underwriting decisions, and delivering exceptional service. In this role, you will apply your expertise to evaluate medical evidence, support team development, and contribute to underwriting projects—all while upholding our values and commitment to excellence.

Requirements

  • Bilingualism (fluent in French and English) required, as the position will regularly serve our clients with English and French-speaking needs.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience in the Medical Underwriting field or minimum 2-4years experience in Group insurance is preferred
  • Knowledge of the AS400 Image System an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision in a team environment
  • Ability to work with high volumes and prioritize in order to meet strict daily deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Reliability Status Security Clearance – this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada website. The cost of submitting these checks will be covered by Canada Life.

Responsibilities

  • Medical Underwriting of Creditor applications for life, disability, and critical illness under Group insurance plans
  • Meeting high service levels and provide superior customer service to both our internal and external clients
  • Eliminate the occurrence of anti-selection to ensure that the successful applicants represent a standard risk
  • Demonstrate a high level of personal ownership, collaboration, holistic value-centric perspective, work adaptability, and innovation.
  • Providing training and support to junior staff
  • Participating in Creditor Underwriting projects as required
