Sr. Frontend Engineer (React)

Data SocietyWashington, DC

About The Position

The onshore Senior Front-End Engineer leads React UI architecture and build quality for the platform, directing a pod of offshore front-end engineers while remaining hands-on in code review, component library ownership, and sprint delivery. In this role, you will serve as the technical authority on all frontend decisions, from design system implementation through role-based access control (RBAC) patterns, API integration, and CI/CD pipeline compliance. You will collaborate closely with the onshore Solution Architect, UX/Product Designer, and Sr. Back-End Engineer to ensure the frontend is production-ready and demo-ready every two weeks. This role is work-from-home (remote) though must be able to commute to client offices in Falls Church, VA as needed (estimated every 2 weeks). This is a full-time W2 employment role with befits. Please note that this role is tied to a client contract and is structured as an initial 9-month position. Opportunities for extension or long-term placement are highly likely based on client renewal and project performance.

Requirements

  • 6–8+ years of front-end development experience, with at least 4 years focused in React (functional components, hooks, context API, performance optimization).
  • Demonstrable experience leading or directing offshore front-end engineering teams.
  • Proven experience working from Figma wireframes and collaborating closely with UX/UI designers.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) for pair programming, code generation, architecture documentation, and code review (AI-assisted development is standard on this engagement).
  • Familiarity with RBAC patterns and SSO integration (Azure Entra ID / OAuth 2.0 preferred).
  • Experience with automated UI testing frameworks such as Storybook, Playwright, or similar.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to lead sprint demos, conduct code reviews with offshore teams, and articulate technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience building enterprise financial or ERP applications.
  • Experience building and owning shared component libraries and design systems for enterprise web applications.
  • Experience consuming REST APIs via Azure APIM or equivalent API gateways.
  • Proficiency with Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines and security-gated build processes (Veracode or similar SAST tools).
  • Familiarity with Azure App Service hosting and deployment patterns.
  • Familiarity with RTK Query, Material UI, and React Router.

Responsibilities

  • Lead React frontend architecture, defining component structure, state management patterns, and design system implementation across all process flow UIs.
  • Direct and oversee a pod of offshore front-end engineers by assigning work, conducting code reviews, and ensuring production-ready output.
  • Build and own the shared component library used across all role-based process flow UIs.
  • Collaborate with the Lead UX/Product Designer to translate Figma wireframes into high-fidelity, accessible React implementations meeting WCAG 2.2 A standards.
  • Implement data reads and write operations from React to the .NET backend REST API layer (via Azure APIM), ensuring the frontend does not call the database or ERP system directly.
  • Implement RBAC in the UI aligned with SSO federation via Azure Entra ID.
  • Own CI/CD pipeline compliance for frontend code, ensuring all commits pass Veracode SAST + SCA security scanning prior to merging.
  • Resolve and triage frontend defects during SIT, UAT, and post-launch hypercare within agreed SLA windows.
  • Lead bi-weekly sprint demos with stakeholders, ensuring all frontend work is demo-ready on schedule.
  • Conduct knowledge transfer to the client team ahead of the support handoff.
