Our team in the Space Sector’s Actuation Systems Business Unit is looking for a Sr FPGA Engineering Manager. You will be responsible for leading and developing the FPGA team of approximately 5 direct reports (~30% time) and contributing to FPGA projects in all phases of the development lifecycle (~70% time) - including requirements capture, design, verification, and test. This position will have an onsite work schedule in Elma, New York and requires access to U.S. export-controlled information and the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant technical experience with VHDL and FPGA designs
  • Proven leadership of engineering teams
  • Self-motivated, critical thinking and strong analytical skills
  • Expertise with VHDL and ModelSim simulator
  • Familiarity with MATLAB Simulink
  • Good grasp of simulation, testing, and debugging tools and techniques
  • Comfortable using lab hardware – power supplies, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Ability to work onsite in Elma, NY (remote candidates will not be considered)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of interface and network protocols a plus (ie SPI, I2C, RS-422, RS-485, MIL-STD-1553)

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of approximately 5 FPGA engineers
  • Assign projects to direct reports promptly and monitor tasks to ensure they are completed within technical, cost, and schedule constraints
  • Provide personal development for direct reports by conducting performance reviews, mentoring, and monitoring career development.
  • Champion continuous improvement for FPGA activities within the design and development processes
  • Provide expert technical guidance and support to your team
  • Derive requirements for the FPGA design from system product specifications and interface protocols.
  • Use VHDL to create FPGA modules with a focus on reusability.
  • Participate in source code and design reviews.
  • Create and execute verification procedures.
  • Document designs, analyses, and verification results with accurate and concise reports.
  • Share in the value of “teamwork is a must” and thus good communication is key.
