About The Position

The Sr Financial Navigation Specialist is responsible for strengthening the department's ability to deliver accurate insurance education, financial clearance, and patient support through targeted training and real-time operational support. The role combines subject matter expertise in financial navigation with a strong emphasis on team development, resource creation, and case-based coaching. This specialist works across departments to ensure consistency in financial practices and policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of healthcare experience in financial navigation, benefits counseling, or patient access operations.
  • Expert-level understanding of health insurance benefits, CPT/ICD-10 coding, and payer coverage requirements.
  • Clear, confident communicator with the ability to coach a wide range of learner types.
  • Strong analytical, time management, and documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with Epic workflows and payer portals.
  • Able to manage competing priorities and adapt training based on team and regulatory needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience delivering staff education or mentoring strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement training programs for onboarding, skills refreshers, and updates on regulatory or payer changes.
  • Serve as a real-time support resource for staff handling escalated or complex financial navigation issues.
  • Create and maintain training materials including workflow documents, payer reference guides, and tip sheets.
  • Support the accurate completion of Good Faith Estimates, self-pay workflows, and insurance education efforts.
  • Analyze trends in coverage denials or payment delays and deliver targeted education based on root-cause findings.
  • Collaborate with the CBO and other revenue cycle partners to promote consistency in financial documentation and patient communication.
  • Host workflow review meetings and case study discussions to encourage best practice sharing and peer learning.
  • Remain current on insurance requirements, coding updates, and federal patient protection regulations.
  • Provide coverage for front-line navigation needs during periods of high volume or staff shortage.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training and propose adjustments based on performance metrics and team feedback.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
