About The Position

The Sr Financial Navigation Specialist is responsible for strengthening the department's ability to deliver accurate insurance education, financial clearance, and patient support through targeted training and real-time operational support. The role combines subject matter expertise in financial navigation with a strong emphasis on team development, resource creation, and case-based coaching. This specialist works across departments to ensure consistency in financial practices and policies.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years of healthcare experience in financial navigation, benefits counseling, or patient access operations.
Expert-level understanding of health insurance benefits, CPT/ICD-10 coding, and payer coverage requirements.
Clear, confident communicator with the ability to coach a wide range of learner types.
Strong analytical, time management, and documentation skills.
Familiarity with Epic workflows and payer portals.
Able to manage competing priorities and adapt training based on team and regulatory needs.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience delivering staff education or mentoring strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Design and implement training programs for onboarding, skills refreshers, and updates on regulatory or payer changes.
Serve as a real-time support resource for staff handling escalated or complex financial navigation issues.
Create and maintain training materials including workflow documents, payer reference guides, and tip sheets.
Support the accurate completion of Good Faith Estimates, self-pay workflows, and insurance education efforts.
Analyze trends in coverage denials or payment delays and deliver targeted education based on root-cause findings.
Collaborate with the CBO and other revenue cycle partners to promote consistency in financial documentation and patient communication.
Host workflow review meetings and case study discussions to encourage best practice sharing and peer learning.
Remain current on insurance requirements, coding updates, and federal patient protection regulations.
Provide coverage for front-line navigation needs during periods of high volume or staff shortage.
Evaluate the effectiveness of training and propose adjustments based on performance metrics and team feedback.
