About The Position

This position is responsible for system operations of Amtrak’s Electric Traction Department New York Power Director Office located in Midtown Manhattan, New York. Position is responsible to directly supervise the safety of operations, resources, the configuration and switching of the transmission, substation, trolley, signal, 60 cycle, and third rail electrification system components. Ensure the Power Director Office is operated in a safe, economical, efficient, and reliable manner.

  • Develop and ensure compliance of Electric Traction policies and operating guidelines for electrical system operations.
  • Collaborate with division project managers and supervisors on planned outage requests.
  • Must be able to motivate others and drive for results.
  • Must be able to take a lead role in assignments and deliverables.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 6 years prior relevant experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 8+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • 5+ Yrs experience in the operations and maintenance of electrical facilities, electrical regulations, or dispatching of power
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised effectively and efficiently.
  • Previous success in manager roles.

Responsibilities

  • Manage agreement covered Power Director employees in a 24-hour 7 day a week operation.
  • Manages the system operations for the Electric Traction Department’s operating zones 1, 2, and 3, which covers MP 18.9 Shell to MP 76.
  • Provides technical direction and oversight to Power Directors that operate and dispatch the Electric Traction power network.
  • Coordinate work outages to ensure co-ordination of major projects with Transportation and Division.
  • Allocate time spent for switching and issuing of clearances by Power Directors.
  • Coordinate Electric Traction Dept. functions and planned outages within, and other departments as required.
  • Respond appropriately to abnormal system conditions and problems, to minimize the impact to the electrification system and train operations.
  • Disseminate information throughout the system as required.
  • Provide root cause analysis and corrective actions on Electric Traction system outages and failures.
  • Ensure compliance with established rules, policies and procedures in way of direct oversight and audit support.
